Since you are asking about my lap times, I will give you a brief background of my racing/track day experiences. In early 1990's I received driver training in Renault Spec racers and the Ford Spec racer successor's. I graduated to Club events with BMW and Porsche Club. During these events I drove various cars of different performance. Around 1993 started driving in IMSA with the Firestone Firehawk series running Porsche 944 Firehawk Spec cars. Also drove Firehawk 944 through years of Porsche club events along with 1998 944 Club Sport (1 0f 4 built for series before Porsche ceased production) Began driving 911's with a 1992 "Cup" which was also a 1 of 30 something cars. Continued to drive with IMSA after the change to Sportscar in the mid to late 90's.I drove in HSR for years with a 74 Porsche RSR and included a 2nd place yearly overall title in the Historic Enduro series racing against classes including IMSA GTP cars. Other cars driven and or raced include Shelby Can AM series cars from early 90's,a KLM Porsche Can Am, a 1997 Porsce RSR and a Panoz GTS. I have numerous class wins and places in Firehawk Spec 968's also in Porsche Club through the years. I've had seat time in a 962 which was the second most succesfull winning car only to the Rothman's 962 GTP. I have also put in time in a Winston Cup Thunderbird at various tracks.. My point in specifying the individual cars is to show I too have driven expensive, limited production cars.

My original point was probably not expressed exactly as I intended. A little blue tape is not going to protect the car from an inevitable mishap. Yes it does look funny too.

I do not wish any harm to any driver as I have good friends seriously hurt and a couple lost in track day events. When individuals who are wealthy enough to afford cars capable of running 150 miles per hour or more on any track in the country do so with limited experience, they are bound to be accidents. I've seen plenty of them.

As I stopped participating in these type of events around 2002 following the losses, I do occasionally participate in smaller closed events at the Autobahn in Joliet by invitation.

I am not a "Hater" or a "Fanboy" of weekend racers or people with nicer vehicles than mine, I have however dealt with a lot of them. Some good, some bad. Same goes for their driving ability.

oh yeah, at least my 911 is air cooled and a Cayman S can run circles around your 993.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle-ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area we call the 'Twilight Zone.'

I track a '79 sc, and I've instructed in a cayman s and concur that it can run circles around mine. until it breaks. but if you don't track it, then there isn't a circle to talk about.

I've seen plenty of 'funny' tape jobs in the paddock, but I understand where they're coming from. some are poseurs, some are newbies that get serious, and some just want to have some occasional fun. but I don't openly mock any of them. at least they show up at the track and run their car as opposed to running their mouth on the interwebs. I've instructed plenty of tape jobs guys. some where clueless, but others were really nice guys who wanted to safely push the car harder than they could on the street. I don't begrudge them wanting to keep their expensive street car from getting sandblasted.

can't we just all get along and go back to making fun of miatas?
