thanks for posting. Did you miss my last statement in bold?

I own 3 guns, an ancient Winchester 30 30 that I love, starter Mossberg 410 and a Marlin 30 06 that is just beautiful.

if I wanted to buy another, I'd have no worries, but I'm unclear why that' s important to the conversation.

not sure why you feel the need to offer U.S. Citizen rights to non-citizens. Are you also for open borders? Personally I don't care how long you've been here and how legal you are, if you are not a citizen and want to buy a gun, you're making a list in my book. If you pass certain requirements (3 months is not long enough for me, I'd say 1 year), you can have one, just know that Law Enforcement knows you have it.

That said, if you are a U.S. Citizen in good standing, why would you worry?

Because a lot of folks don't trust the gubmint to not keep a record of a NICS check, since they are not allowed to keep records of gun sales or registrations by the states that require it. I don't particularly care to have my name on a gubmint list, since, if they ever banned guns, they'd be coming after me first. And since NICS checks have not prevented any crime at all, it either exists to give politicians cover for appearing to do something, which is really nothing, or to compile a list of houses to visit first if they ban guns. Neither is encouraging.

I'm confused. You're OK with Patriot Act listening in on phone conversations and trust the government there but you are not OK being on a gun list?

On a scale of 1 to 100, what's the likelihood of guns being banned in your lifetime? 1: won't happen; 100: will happen in the next 50 years

Who do you think will visit your house if guns are banned?

I'm seriously curious.

I've always been baffled by some of the Republicans that don't mind government intrusion into their lives, as long as it doesn't include their guns. I want the gov't out of my personal life...completely. But hey, I'm old-school that way.

The Patriot Act is a tool of our national defense programs, the one area we Conservatives grant our gov much power as we consider it one of the it's few actual duties.

I agree, but why would trust the government to use any tool correctly? have they ever? any evidence of abuse of tools in the past?

Stop trying to compare the two. They are 180 deg. different. Since I don't call any terrorists, I don't have to worry about the NSA listening in. I DO buy a lot of guns and I DO have to fill out a lot of gov't. paperwork for each one AND I have a clean record.
