I haven't seen much of a secondary market on any of the three systems, zero on the PS3. My kid is happy enough with his 360, although he's spending more time on his new hotrod computer. Just had my first wii come in, it may be the best for mixing drinking with playing.

I'm still leaning toward the ps3. The new 80gig config comes with Motorstorm, which I was going to get anyway. Plus I can still play my ps2 games.

Think if I eventually find something I need a x360 for, I'll get it then.

Motorstorm is lots of fun and playing online (which is free on the PS3) is a blast.

And isn't HD DVD significantly cheaper?

Sorry that is way off topic for the original post, I'm just curious.
There is no difference in picture quality between Blu-ray and HD DVD. If you take the same HDCAM master and encode/author it for Blu-ray and HD DVD they will look identical.

Regarding costs, it does cost more to manufacture Blu-ray than HD DVD, but both HD formats average $19.95 to $27.95 per disc and are priced pretty much the same in retail stores.
Currently, the average price of HD discs sold through Amazon is $27.70 for Blu-ray and $32.40 for HD DVD.

Look here for details.

Got the ps3 on Sunday, kids have been glued to it. Driving motor storm took a little getting used to, but throttle steering through the mud seams to do the trick, teaching my son some new driving techniques. My daughter likes destroying things in Transformers. I haven't gotten the hang of driving that game yet.

Had to update the system software to run Transformers, just a quick plug into the cable modem. I do wonder if there is a wireless setup I can use to run to my wireless cable router, and how to assign a MAC address to it for my router security, as I usually keep my cable modem in another room.

The dvd upconverter works well, better than the LG unit I had already. (oh yeah, I switched my netflix over to blue ray discs too)

Store clerk said I was better to get the 60gig model vs the 80gig coming out, said ps2 games were still done with a chip, in the 80gig model it would go by software emulation and would require patches for all the ps2 games.....whatever......

Next thing to try is finding some of the ps3 games to download and run off the hard drive, see what those are like.

I know whats on my wish list, WRC racing!!!! Love that on the ps2

Here are the key advantages to Blu-ray:
  • Much more motion picture studio support (only Universal is exclusively HD DVD , so many films will never be available on HD DVD).
  • Much more support from consumer electronics manufacturers.
  • More storage space: Single layer discs are 25 GB versus 15 GB. And dual layer discs are 50 GB versus 30 GB.
  • Blu-ray discs are very scratch resistant. HD DVDs are just like regular DVDs.
  • Blu-ray was released after HD DVD, yet it's dominating HD DVD in sales.

Don't buy HD DVD. It won't be around for long.
Agreed. HD-DVD is the Betamax of our day.

Just wanted to share my initial thoughts on the xbox 360.
Mine was delivered by the UPS girl yesterday and within a few hours I had it connected, networked (wireless), xbox live setup, Windows Media Center Extender configured, and played some PGR3.

Wow, this machine is much more than I expected...well worth the $400 I have invested to get all of the above working!

I'm in the business.

Xbox 360
Wii
PS3

In that order.

At least a responsible company bought the MotoGP franchise from Namco for PS2.

I was bumming when XBox Had MotoGP4 and it was 18 months late for PS2; It was obsolete before it was released, and at $49.95 Feck that!!

also as a dad I feel the 360 is on the better level for the family, my kids seem to adapt to and enjoy the 360 more than they ever did with the PS2. Thanks Alf for the package, hope to catch on live soon!

PS3 has much better packaging (compact shiny black plastic with integrated DvD.) But, x-box seems to have the more fun driving games.

NOT TRUE. HD-DVD and xbox has 1080p. --it's rather out-of-touch to not know this.

to add to the discussion, I want to talk about Forza2.
First of all the feel of all the cars, acceleration and braking feel much closer to realistic than PG3 or GT4. And I also wanted to say Forza2 got the Nurburgring right...it's not perfect but WOW it's so close and much better than either of the others I mentioned.

Happy Thanksgiving fellas.

I looked at both a while back and concluded that BOTH were a waste of money. To simply play either Forza (X360) or GT5 (PS3) you're looking at a $600 to $700 investment by the time you're done.

That's about 15 fillups of gas in the 911. And that's a LOT of real driving fun.

Besides, who has the time for video games anymore?

Many people have time, and well crash your 911 on the Nurburgring and then the video game systems will seem very inexpensive. lol

Got the 360 Elite/HD DVD and love it xbox live has all kinds of demos (200+free) about ten of which are driving games. I bought Forza II guess I will pickup the cordless wheel next. We have two cordless rechargable controlers. I can also view videos and pics as well as listen to music from our two computers wirelessly through the 360 downstairs. It has worked on all my old xbox games I have tried so far. Got the 5 free HD DVDs with the HD DVD player offer at Best Buy.

This thing rocks with my 65" Toshiba HD 1080i and Denon 7.1.
