I just quit my job.

I have nothing lined up. I don't have a plan.

I feel a bit scared. But I'm also feel damn relieved.

I had my cart hitched to a drunk horse. Its scary to let go, but at least your cart is not constantly crashing into things and getting dragged through the mud.

Congratulations! ... And good luck. The job market isn't bad right now (so I'm told), so you should be able to find something else soon.

If it's any consolation, I'll be submitting my letter of resignation next week. I don't currently have anything lined up, but I do have some tentative offers. Either way, I know that being out of work for a bit will be better than staying where I am.

I like the drunken horse analogy...

Awesome. congrats!

The market for my part of the field (Cisco stuff, routers, switches, VoIP, security, etc) is pretty darn good. I'd assume it is on your side too. You should be fixed up in no time (after an appropriately relaxing vaca, of course.

I did it a year ago.

Sometimes it's the best move.

Good luck.

You'll be fine.

I'm itching to quit mine and do my contracting business full time. but I have 6 more yrs before i can officially retire from my regular job. and the penalty if I left now would be too costly to my pension

Don't second guess or regret the decision, just move on and find another. It must have been pretty bad to just up and quit like that, so you made the right choice. Life is too short to spend it miserable.

I do feel better.

I'm currently on a nightmarish assignment in Portland, OR. I was out walking last night, and went into a gas station and bought an ice cream bar. I wandered along eating ice cream, and slowly a big smile came across my face.

It feels right.

All the luck to you!

Just out of curiosity - how will you put bread on the table ? Savings ?

I sometimes (often) wish I could quit too. Particularly as my regular work consumes too much of day light time and energy. Life is too short for a daily job.

Still missing the spell check button..

Congrats! It must feel good. Don't worry something will come your way. I hear the Falcons might need a new quarterback, how's your arm feel?

Well, good luck to you.

Try to work out a financial situation so that you don't feel too pressured to take another crap job. Start paring off services now like cable, etc.

Of course, if you're independently wealthy, no worries. Jack

Good luck to you, although "luck" has nothing to do with success. I took the Ford salaried buyout in March and I'm doing fine. You made the right decision, now take some time to get your thoughts together and make a plan, then get out there and execute the plan!

I've done that a few times.

It's -- as the pop psych people like to say -- 'empowering.'

Consider yourself to have just fired the old boss. Hire a better one -- and that includes interviewing yourself for the position.

I wish you the best. I personally think it's nuts to quit a job without something else lined up, but if it's truly in your heart then maybe it's the right move for you. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

I vigorously applaud this kind of courage. It is, without a doubt, a good decision. You're taking control. As opposed to being a scared lemming.

I go through this every 1-6 weeks depending on the job.

I'm trying to drum up some work as we speak.
