Architects, Show Us What you Got!!

Since there are a few Architects on the board, and others who can design too (I can't but I am drawing up something myself) if you were going to design & build (with in reason) your dream shop garage. Any one up to it?? We can set some limits(30X40) and have a poll to see who comes up with what
As people submit, we will add to the poll

Yea, see who can come up with the coolest, most functional 30X40 building, one you would want to hang out in

That's the only requirement? No budget or other constraints? That's pretty open-ended. . .

You gonna' build it when done?

I have my own idears for my shop & someone drawing it up & stamping it. I just thought it would be fun see what everyone else is thinking & knowing that we had a few pros, wanted to see what they could do, who knows another PPer could hire em Of course, if there was enough interest (which there doesn't seem to be) I was going to a Realistic & Lotto winning Dream shop. I'm going for very high roof with loft, lift placement in the far corner, set up & stuff. Of course mine will have lots of hanging tire racks and an area in the loft for working on my BMX bikes & stuff as well as display the models I've been collecting for over 20 years.

All architectural competitions usually have an honorarium associated with them, or at least a cash prize for 1-5 place finishers.

A free competition for architects is like asking for free legal briefs or free medical treatment.

What is it about the word architect, who are professionals, that is at odds with the word free?

May I use your Porsche for free for six months (about the value of our services)?

Not trying to be a smart ass, but which architect would give away free services, even to a BBS buddy?

For Byron, I think there shoud be a pole in the middle of the garage for his "friends" to hang out, and of course, pics will be mandatory

This just shows how big the ego is of the average architect.

I've seen lots of free legal advice given by lawyers on this forum as well as lots of free medical advice.

I guess "artists" are special.

Competitions are fun and everything, but doing real design schemes which have gone through several iterations of refinement and presenting it in a manner that is professional, communicative of the underlying design intent and able to have a realistic shot at winning takes a MAJOR investment in time and effort/resources. That's typically why there's an "award" of some sort at the end.

It's not about ego (not for me anyway), it'd be about doing some design and getting the creative juices flowing. You'd be surprised how bloody boring the day-to-day can get in an architectural office sometimes. . . Might be nice to have the opportunity to just kick back and have some fun, although finding the time is quite difficult right now.

Sure you can do a "back of napkin" sketch in 10 minutes, but a real competition-type entry that's up to the level of expectation of most reviewers/critics? A few dozen hours - MINIMUM. More like a couple of hundred, depending on the complexity of the project. For a job like this that's so open-ended, it could actually take quite a while, since there's so much to potentially research.

Or I suppose there's VASteve's way.
