New home garage project

After I get a few more parts sales completed, I'll be starting a new garage at the house.

24x28 with a 12' ceiling (for future lift).
18x9 door in the front (big enough to get my trailer inside if needed)
9x24 storage overhead.
Opening in the back is for future expansion, so I'll close that in for now.
Open side is to go against the current house.

Excellent and congratulations. Heck, which parts are you selling that allow you to afford a new garage ?

I await receipt of my full set of drawings on the new garage (with a new house attached) anytime soon.......

To minimize the impact, I'm building 3 garage spaces totalling slightly over 3000sqft (large 3 car fro everyday, one car for collector car plus a very large garage to house my trailer and 3 cars plus a workshop with its own full bath and storage).

I've been selling everything that isn't bolted down. I'll have a ready to bolt in, already rebuilt 3.0 with webers available in a few weeks, should cover the rest of it.

Your mega garage sounds great, I'll get back to multi car eventually.

That looks pretty nice, John. Is a 12' ceiling height sufficient? IIRC, I looked into this at one time and was thinking that 13'-14' would be ideal. Of course, my memory is suspect.

12' is what I measured to get a 2 post lift and be able to stand underneath. Trucks would be another matter. Mainly wanting the lift for storage. I can't go 3 bays wide due to property lines and neighborhood restrictions. I'll put another bay in the back after the rest is complete.

Nice! I agree a bit more than 12 ft would be nice if you are putting a lift in. An extra foot would be very helpful.

Could you put in a scissor-truss style roof that would give a "Cathedral-style" ceiling and more useable space for a lift? My neighbor is going to build me a new garage next summer and he's going to use a scissor truss and the roof will be 17' tall (exterior).

I'd vote for attic space over vaulted ceilings. If you must change the truss design for clearance I'd suggest you keep it limited to the area only over the lift.

Very nice design all in all, is that sized per property lines or sheet specs?

Don't forget that a garage door that opens up toward the ceiling will rcut into this height, if you have a garage door opener that will also take up space.
