Some interesting info.
Quote:
Currently, a valid SSN cannot have an area number above 772, the highest area number which the Social Security Administration has allocated.[2]

There are also special numbers which will never be allocated:

* Numbers with all zeros in any digit group (000-xx-xxxx, xxx-00-xxxx, xxx-xx-0000).
* Numbers of the form 666-xx-xxxx, probably due to the potential controversy (see Number of the Beast). Though the omission of this area number is not acknowledged by the SSA, it remains unassigned.
* Numbers from 987-65-4320 to 987-65-4329 are reserved for use in advertisements.

SSNs used in advertising have rendered those numbers invalid. One famous instance of this occurred in 1938 when the E. H. Ferree Company in Lockport, New York, decided to promote its product by showing how a Social Security card would fit into its wallets. A sample card, used for display purposes, was placed in each wallet, which was sold by Woolworth and other department stores across the country. The wallet manufacturer's vice president thought it would be clever to use the actual SSN of his secretary, Hilda Whitcher.

Even though the card was printed in red (the real card is printed in blue), was half the size of the real card, and had "Specimen" printed across the front, many people used the SSN. Over time, the number that appeared (078-05-1120) has been claimed by a total of over 40,000 people as their own. The SSA initiated an advertising campaign stating that it was incorrect to use the number. (Hilda Whitcher was issued a new SSN.) However, the number was found to be in use by 12 individuals as late as 1977.

Hahaha, you obviously haven't been paying attention. Too childish? Too far off? Doesn't exist for this board.

I assume everyone knows the first three digits identify the state the applicant was living at the time of issuance. At the shop I have a chart listing ss#'s by state. I file my customer data base by DL/ss#, the joes are often suprised I know where they were born.

Ask whatsherface, the lady that just got deported to me-hee-co for the second time. She prolly has most of our social security numbers. That's why she got kicked out the second time, using falsified/stolen identification.

If I know of someone using a fake or stolen ID card or social security card, I notify the FBI immediately. Knowing about a crime being committed and not doing anything about it is wrong IMO.

And the interesting thing is that if you look into the original setup of the SSN, it was decreed that it would never be used as an "identification number"....

That lasted a long time...

This lovely state REQUIRES it for a driver's license. As well as a thumbprint (which I find particularly offensive).

Of course if you're an illegal, I guess you just get one for free and presumably without the above requirements however. . .

I try to protect my SS # but now everyone wants it . You can't rent a dvd without giving it. It is actually pretty scary and I am sure the amount of fraud because of these practices totals dollars large enough to jump start the economy of a medium sized country.
But since you want it here ya go ... 382-59-688 .. first person who figures it out gets a free toaster

We looked at buying a company in orlando about 5 years ago. They provided temporary help services. When we got to the discovery phase - we found out that over 2,000 of their employees had the social security number 999-99-9999.

We decided to pass.
