Any other source for MP3 players other then Ipod that work with I tunes?
My daughters Ipod Mini bit the dust a few month ago for no apparent reason. She took excellent care of it. It just gave up the frowny sick ipod image (which usually means a hard drive failure and you can't repair it other then sending it back). I let her borrow mine in the interim and we were considering getting her a new Ipod that is the latest generation (similar to the iphone). Well, now my 40 gb that she was using bought the farm. Once again, it was well cared for and never abused. My concern is that I have real issues on shelling out $400 for a piece of junk that will die in a year or two. I do like the Itunes software. I guess Apple thought it out. Come up with some decent software that many will become comfortable with, but have it operate on disposable junk.

My Motorola SLVR has iTunes built into it, but it's limited to I think 100 songs. That's still a lot, but it just means you have to upload a new batch from your library once a week or two.
Plus it's a good phone.

No, there is not.
You could buy AppleCare, 2 yr extended warranty for $59, with the next iPod (if any). I have never had a problem with our iPods (4 so far - gen 2, old shuffle, new shuffle, 80GB video). But if I was having bad luck, I'd consider AppleCare.

$400...hell you can get a 4GB nano, now with video, at Costco for $180, maybe even less. At those prices these things are "disposeable". I'm on the opposite side of the fence, really like the iPod, dislike the iTunes suite.

I think the new Ipod with wifi is $399. Still, I hardly say something that still cost $150-200 should be thought of as disposable. Seems you and Steve Jobs are on the same page.
