War on the mice

I live in a wooded area and mice come with the territory. Over the years I have presided over various battles and killing waves.

The standard trap minefield:

Works well, but no good around little kids. This puts it in the basement where it is effective, but... day one you check, day two maybe, then you forget until the putrid smell of a rotting mouse permeates the stairway. Not good.

The Decon offensive:

I advised the wife against this but she persisted. They die alright, they die in your walls...and rot. They jump into your sump for hydration..and rot. They crawl behind furniture/cabinets...and rot. Is there a theme here?

This leads me to my latest find. The live trap by Tomcat.

It's an over-center device that lures the little bastard in then it's own weight effectively shuts the door by tipping the unit. It's clean and has an easy open live release system.

With this new weaponry I feel confident that the surge will prevail, that the alliance will once again control the laundry room closet dog-food storage area.

I caught one before work this morning. When I walked him out to the field and released him I could tell that I had won over his heart and mind with my act of mercy. Surely he will spread the word.

I should add that I have commissioned for a M.O.F (Mother Of all Felines) but the request was denied by the Secretary of the Bedroom.

Interesting... maybe we could work out a Blackwater type mercenary contract? I promise no hearings on their brutality.

They only see compassion as weakness. I suggest a tiger and a shotgun.

Looks like the perfect opportunity to meld euthanasia, high-tech and some good, old fashioned taxidermy!

The real mouse, mouse.

Kids love 'em.

Best,

Kurt

I'd be willing to send them over, only after that show of bravado they just hopped off and hid.

Typical frogs!

If your pet eats the mouse that ate the DeCon stuff your pet will bleed out and die a horrible death.

Out of interest, what do you use to bait the traps? I've heard chocolate works well and that cheese isn't actually as effective as you would be led to believe.

When it gets cold, the mice find their way into my shop. I once made the mistake of using poison and the place wreaked for months as the little batadges rotted away in the walls. I now am back to plain old mouse traps baited with a bit of cheese. Higgin's pic of the pellet guns is funny, I nailed one once with two pumps of my Crossman 760 BB gun that I found loitering on my work bench last winter. That would have made for a funny video....the great mouse hunter that I am!

Until PETA makes killing mice a federal offense, no mice will ever be "caught and released" on my property. At least use your heel on them after you catch them Lendaddy. You aren't going soft are you?

Two weeks ago my invisible dog fence quick working and after a quick check I confirm that the buried wire (2000' and buried under three driveways!) loop had been broken. After dragging a long pc of wire all over the yard and digging all over to check continuity, I finally found the break. A mouse had made a home in the crack left in the clay ground and chewed the wire. She was still in there with babies. Needless to say, they got a quick stomping once I dug them out of there.

Kill em all...let god sort em out! Remember... you are at war!
