Very nice. I spent some time yesterday putting new tires on my dirt bike, damn that sucks. But then, it surprised me by starting on the thrid kick, so that was good.

i hate doing tires, i have a friend who has his own tire mount and balance machines, they make it a bit easier when breaking beads

just recieved some new tie rods/ends off ebay as the old ones were worn/bent, hopefully meeting up with christian later today to fix the studs, then the engine can go it and i can take care of the electrics and fire her up

still that damn fuel tank to deal with though.....

Sweet...
I have an '83 Honda ATC110 3-wheeler I used for my pit vehicle. The starter recoil broke, spurng apart and now it sits. The front end is a little tweaked and I always thought about doing somkehting like this. Hmmmmm......want another project?

Once the weaterh breaks we're on for the stereo install.

sounds good john, let me know when you're ready
the recoil on the 110 should be the same as the 200s (which was my first 3 wheeler when i was 10yrs old) i had to rebuild that recoil so many times it haunted me LOL if you can get the rebuild kit it would only take about 10 minutes to fix

we could always use the 110cc engine and make a pit bike/cafe racer

This is a great thread, bell.... inspires me to want to get an old beater atv (is that even the right term?) or even a project like this. I have very little experience / knowledge with atv's, but I'd like to get a very simple, relatively low-powered one to putt around with my 6 year old boy with. Eventually I would get him one as well, likely another low-powered one so that he can learn to ride safely.

What would you recommend?

Thanks,

JA

honestly i haven't played around with any atv since i traded my 250r 3 wheeler in 89' for a boat, i raced alot of enduro events in the 80's, up til now though i have been a little out of touch with the sport. from what i've gathered though is stay away from the cheap chinese crap, my boss bought one for his kid and within a month it was trashed and falling apart...broken welds etc....
i'd say find a good deal on a nice used bike or 2, and stick with the name brands like honda/yamaha/kawasaki/polaris.

tonite we were able to save 3 of the 4 exhaust studs (the 350x has a dual port exhaust), the 4th one was previosly cracked and it chunked apart....if i can't get the header to seal with the 3 i'll have someone tif in some aluminum on the head which we'll drill and thread, i think i'll be alright though.

tomorrow i'm going to get the engine in the frame and start on the electrics.
more pics to come

ran into a little problem but nothing major, i can't get the header into position, i need to re-pull the steering stem for clearance to get it in there but no big deal, i hate doing things twice.....
more to come, hopefully i'll be able to fire it up by monday (without a muffler as i'm still looking for a stock one).....there's still that damn gas tank to figure out

engine is in, i had to "modify" the exhaust a little as it was touching the frame.....i used dei wrap to help insulate it a little.....
i now know i need to fabricate a gas tank....maybe i could use a small keg type

hopefully i'll be able to fire it up by monday, i need to see if the header seated properly....
some small camera phone pics....more to come

I have a warrior that got wrecked by a drunken idiot at a stag. I did rebuild the bike - infact the only original parts are the seat, the engine, the wireing, the rear tires, and the plastic. I still have some spare suspension parts that are going to get thrown out when i move in 1 month. Want them? There are early warrior / blaster parts.

YEA
fired up on the first kick, pretty freaking loud without a muffler
my exhaust port leaks pretty good, i'll pull the engine back out and have someone weld in some metal so i can drill and tap for the 4th stud, in this time i need to track down a muffler and make a gas tank and i'l done

i wish it was done now......could've been out riding around town in this monster snowstorm we're in the middle of
my neighbors obviosly don't know about not parking on the street when snow exceeds 2"

my neighbor in the pic above got an expensive parking ticket, watched the cops doing rounds sun morning ticketing every car which was still buried in the street

ok since it's such a pain to pull the engine i decided to try a little jb weld and a stud on the head, the threaded stud had enough threads in the head to hold it in place (metal missing from 3 o'clock to 7 o'clock).....i'll know tomorrow if it'll hold, i may be alright as it's snug
just bought a muffler for a 300 off of fleabay for $25, should work fine and quiet it down good.

right now i've got about $205 into the whole project (subtracting the parts i already sold)

perfect, i know jb weld can be a band-aid sometimes but it worked really well, the stud is securely holding the header tight
more to come....this just saved me a buttload of time
muffler is shipped and i should have it by the end of the week......so the first ride is close

Any more progress?

I just picked up one of these (not this one, just found this picture on the net), its a 1996 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 with under a thousand miles on it for a really good price.

no real progress lately.......i've got to get some new exhaust gaskets for where the header bolts to the head (the little copper ring style) as it leaks pretty good and the old ones are worn.
i'me tearing down all my fish tanks (and relocating my fish to a friends place) this weekend for my upcoming move so i've kinda stalled a little on the blaster at the moment.....and also just recieved a box o' mantainance goodies from our host for my targa.......
soon though....very soon
