Wow, chalk one up for Florida!

http://www.wesh.com/news/14437963/detail.html The last sentence of the report blew me away (no pun). If this were Kalifonia, there already would be lawsuits filed on behalf of the "victim" (robber) citing the gross recklessness of the homeowner. Sad thing is, they'd probably win too. There would also be a legion of anti-gun nuts hopping up and down pointing to the incident about how "all gun owners are lunatics" and similar B.S. I never thought I'd say this, but Florida actually has something on CA today.

About two years ago a law was passed that opened up hunting season on anyone that fuchs with you. Basically, if you feel threatened, you can open fire.

Perps will learn eventually. Hopefully not the hard way but if so, then they sure deserve it in many cases.

There have been MANY recent incidents of armed people fighting back here (SoFLA). My favorite was the 70+ y/o man in a Subway (sub shop) @ 11p. Two scumbags with guns hold up the cashier then see the lone customer (old man) sitting toward the back of the store. They come after him, attempting to herd him into the bathroom while demanding his wallet. They have guns leveled at him. Gramps pulls his trusty .45 and screws one loser right between the eyes. He wings the second "gangsta" who runs from the store screaming like a little *****. They find him a few blocks away bleeding profusely. He survies and is charged with the murder of his accomplice. The old man? A retired Marine who was on the Presidential protection details of Kennedy and Johnson. LOL! P.S. - The deceased scumbag's "baby-momma" was on the news the following evening crying, asking why the guy had to shoot her son? "He only wanted his wallet...he wasn't going to kill him! Dat be excessive force!" Last edited by Danny_Ocean; 10-28-2007 at 09:01 AM..

Too many bleeding heart lib fools in Kalifornia. I say criminals deserve what they get, if they don't want to get shot they shouldn't break into houses.

Yeah, if you break in my house or try to rob me any time, any place, I should be able to empty a clip into you and shove you out the door so you don't bleed on the floor.

The Castle Doctrine/Stand your ground does not make an open season. Typically they do 2 things: 1. Remove the requirement to retreat, or attempt to retreat 2. If a shooting is adjudicated justified, it stops the possiblility of a civil lawsuit. If does not change the law of what constitutes a justified shooting and it doesn't stop the local DA or the state from looking into the matter. Both of these are usually brought up by the anti-gunners, but improperly. They IMPLY or LIE that the Castle Doctrine allows you to shoot anyone, claim self defense and then the whole things just goes away. That is total BS.

Pretty much sums it up. The "break into my house or try to rob me" parts are really key to the whole thing. The first is pretty damn easy to prove. The second, not so easy all of the time. The gist of it however is pretty simple.

I will prefer to be judged by 12, than carried by 6.

Interesting that the article said he was 75 and legally blind for 61 years yet was a taxi driver, let me do the math. I guess he was a very young taxi driver. How could he be legally blind for 61 years and still drive, am I missing something, but then again it is Florida. Good for him, guess he could see well enough to shoot the perp. How many remember Audrey Hepburn in "Wait until Dark" great movie!

taxi dispatcher Though there is an odd perk to being legally blind in Fla, Free Permanent Fishing License - Florida Game & Freshwater Fish Commission. Also, this helps to sum up the expansion of self defense laws in Fla. http://crime.about.com/b/a/160302.htm

Good eye, guess I just saw the "D" I thought this was an interesting sentence structure: "Police said Williams shot Curtis, who tried to flee but collapsed on the front porch, in the left side of the neck." The English teachers would have fun with that, the work of the editor, no doubt.

Completely agree with you all. I've played the scenario out in my own mind and yes, despite Kalifornia's laws, if someone breaks into my place - believe me, it'll be the last thing they do. They're getting 16 of the rounds in the 17-round clip. Of course I'll fire a "warning shot" into the ceiling with the last bullet, then drag the carcass out to the alley, toss it in the dumpster and call 9-1-1 and the sanitation department to come pick up the trash - in that order. I too would take my chances that maybe, just maybe 1 person in 12 in this state is normal and understands the provisions of the Bill of Rights.

Gotta remember Florida is part of the South. Non of the states put up with that sh_t down there. I bet money that most local Da's in the South are card carrying members of the NRA. At least it used to be that way when I was growing up down there. (Dad used to hunt/fish with the local DA and Sheriff)

Illinois would be a lot like Florida if we could saw off Cook County and let it fall into the lake...
