I assume the rack is used to eliminate toast "sweat"? I never knew this sweat was such a big deal until I started down this path of toaster research and enlightenment. Best, Kurt |

Your assumption is correct, just don't waste needless minutes testing and verifying that you are really eating toast.

Don't get a REALLY BIG toaster over, if you go the toaster oven route. Our office got a really big one, and my parents got a really big one, and it takes about 10 minutes to get a piece of bread toasted.
I'd recommend bringing a loaf of bread to the store and test-toasting. If the seller doesn't want to, walk away. There's other toasters. If you go used, get a PPI. |

Easy! The toaster takes 1 minute 50.77 seconds to make two slices of toast. So you will have cooked 64 slices of toast after 59 minutes 4.32seconds. The remaining two slices would only be half done when the clock gets to one hour, allowing for rounding errors. Two halves make a whole which when added to the existing 64 slices makes 65 slices. Voila!

I'm also a toaster oven dude... not sure what make... may be a Black & Decker (seriously).
I like the versatility of the toaster oven... it is a muti tasker, you can do small frozen dinners, appetizers, etc. Plus you can watch the toast cook...how cool is that! YMMV

Nice patina on that one and it's refreshing to see that the seller didn't replace the lost "light-dark" knob with an after-market piece. 9 bids and @ $30 with a day to go. But, I honestly don't want to get into something like that right now. A new Dualit with a warranty is still looking like the way to go. Thanks again for the suggestions, advice and ideas. Best, Kurt |

You Boyz are fking NUTZ!!!! Its TOAST for christs sake....remember the old addage the best is not always the best. All those geegaws are just a waste...the object of the game is to put some brown on a slice of bread...not send a rocket to Mars...
Go to Wallmart and buy the cheapest Toaster they have..thats around $10.00. It has wide slots, and a darkness selector. I bought that thing nearly 10 years ago, the cheap one I had previousily lasted 20 years....it does the job. If ya don't like it ya can always throw it away its only $10.00 and waste more money on a deluxe model.

This is nothing but pure blantant American consumerism...don't you have anything better to spend your money on....If you feel the need to spend money why not buy the cheap Toaster and donate the rest to your favorite charity...

The Dualit didn't do so well in this test from Slate:
http://slate.com/id/2138803/ Here's the winner of that test: ![]() DeLonghi Aluminum 2-Slice, $129.99 Meet everyone's favorite. The DeLonghi elicited actual oohs and ahhs. When you place a piece of bread in the slot, the toaster senses it and the bread automatically descends. When the bread is finished toasting, it rises slowly to the surface. This rising is accompanied by a pleasant "ding!" If your temperature control has already been set, it's possible to make toast without ever touching the toaster. It's magic, I tell you. Everything about this toaster is a delight—especially that it's delightfully easy to clean. The entire base of the toaster is the crumb tray. When you want to clean it, lift up the top of the toaster, remove the bottom, and dump it out. This is the most elegant solution to the crumb problem I've seen. Simplest to use, easiest to clean, and the best-looking to boot: It's a toaster trifecta! The DeLonghi is not cheap, but you won't feel ripped off. Toasting quality: 8 Design/Ease of use: 9 Cleanup: 10 Value: 4 Total: 31 |
