A pro-gun ruling will result in calm.

A ant-gun ruling and the thugs will probably be shooting into the air in celebration (of continued access to un-armed victims).

Uh Chris, you seem to misunderstand. An anti-gun ruling might have nationwide implications for gun ownership. Could you imagine DC laws spreading helter-skelter all over the country by zealous gun-control-favoring localities?

I am keeping a friend's AR-15/M4 now and put a lot of rounds through her this past weekend. I will buy my own when I give this one back. I doubt any SCOTUS ruling is going to change state laws on "assault rifles". I think the SCOTUS will probably tell DC their ban is unconstitutional, but that they can put all kinds of restrictions on handgun ownership, sort of like what Chicago and NYC now do and get away with. So then DC will make it almost, but not totally impossible to legally own a handgun. Won't make a difference in crime whatsoever.

I don't think any gun control law before now has been overturned on 2nd Amend grounds, has it? If so, what will change if Supreme Court upholds DC's law?

Chicago's doesn't really have a "ban" on handguns. It is legal to own them if they are registered. Registration was closed to new applicants in 1981.

Probably true.

One can only hope for a case to come before the court to challenge all the anti-gun stuff like the so-called "assault weapons" bans, etc. Ditto concealed carry. That's one thing I actually miss about FL - getting a CCW permit there was very simple/easy.
