Rolex - should I?

Any Rolex shop that works on the watch will record it and that record goes to the factory. If it was done at a genuine Rolex shop, proving it will not be a problem.

Mine keep time well within specs and could care less if I have to adjust them from time to time.

I'm really hoping that this is covered, I love this watch, but its had two $500 dollar services in the last three years. It failed on a dive off the coast of Mexico last year.

That doesn't sound good. You should not have two $500. services in three years. These watches are built to last. I have had two factory services since 1990. These are $250.- a pop - and that's OK.

The watch will outlive me by many years.

The first was an "overhaul" which they need form time to time, the second was a leak, and now another leak with rust inside of course. But I've had it since 87, so I'm not concerned with the cost, just that it gets done right.

My old GMT was never right on but since I didn't navigate with it and am usually early for anything it never bothered me. I just liked it. As I have said, I never should have sold it.

I don't know who's been in your watch but this sounds like it wasn't factory serviced. Make sure it gets to Rolex this time yourself, not through a dealer.

Actually, I drive a Denali or one of the two old 911's I own. But thanx for the free advice. I guess that you get what you pay for.

If you're like me those 911s haven't seen the light of day since December. Milwaukee has exceeded it's salt budget 4 times over. My Yukon, on the other hand........

Another point on expense and Rolex - There are lots of things that are expensive that defy logic. I have friends that collect audio. Some turntables are well into 4 figures. Another is into astronomy. He thinks nothing of spending 10k on an eyepiece. My wife's sisters collect Lalique crystal (as does my wife). A vase (pronounced "vaahhz" ) can run 10k easily. Mechanical fuel injection componants for an old Super Carrera are BIG bucks. A Porsche Speedster will fetch 100k - maybe more.

Buying a Rolex is a bargain imo. It's about buying something you like because it is what it is - not - i because it does what it does. How many things like that can you buy and actually sell for more $$ a year later?

Man, you are right about the 911's and the salt. One of the Waukesha County spraying trucks went by me in the opposite lane the other day and it sounded like a sand storm had hit our GMC!

Yeah, I just like to agitate people about stuff like jewelry. I tell my wife and her pals that whenever a person cannot tell the difference between a $10K diamond and a $1k fake diamond then they should do what I do and buy chocolate milk shakes instead since it's easy to tell a good one.

Now, my 1969 Triumph Bonneville T120R with 5364 miles on it...that's really smart to have in the garage and almost never ride it.

I wish to thank you Rolex guys for all the justifications used...excuses for buying something you don't really need. You see, I've been eyeing the Jeep Rubicon Unlimited lately....not to mention a $2,500 "Southwest" pool cue.

I'll try out your suggestions on Cindy...she'd scream about the cue. She actually wants me to buy a new vehicle "that would make you happy"...she doesn't really care what it is. Local GM dealer has an '08 'Vette Ragtop in the showroom. She asked: "Do you want it? Let's buy it if you do."

Damn! If only my mom had said the same when I was in High School. Alas, I've matured a wee bit since then.

Guess what a person wants is sometimes more important than what a person needs...

(edit) My problem? These days I don't have a clue what I really want. So much "stuff", even high quality "stuff" is kind of boring.

I had my submarironer rebuilt backi n Switzerland . I figured if I was going to have it done > have it done at the factory.

WRT Iraq.... don't really want to go there... I was involved in the initial planning ... and as all can see > it didn't turnout the way we "planned" it.. using the phrase "planned" loosely... I did OIF #1 [DEC2002 - OCT2003 and I was back in Iraq again JUN2006 - NOV 2006]... did some trips to Afghanistan in 2005 and 2006....

Love my Rolex though..
