iPod touch

merry christmas from my iPod touch. Browser is good so in a pinch it will work good for my yahoo mail and pelican fix. Keyboard is not great, but better than some I have seen. U tube videos work perfectly as could be expected. If you have one and know some secret options let me know.

Gave one to my father in law, I agree... totally slick device. Love the way it flips the browser window for you and allows you to zoom by "pinching."

I have played with it a bit, used it for a few iTunes purchases direct to the iPod...cool feature for sure! I am impressed how second nature the OS has become as it pulled my favorites and such from Safari on my PC as well as my Outlook calendar and contacts.

My 30gig Ipod is now going to stay in the Truck as it's connected to the deck, now the iPod touch will be the one I carry.

I just gave my daughter one and she loves it. What do you think the best, not intrusive, case for this is? I love the look of the touch, but one drop on the sidewalk and I think it's history. Doesn't look too durable. I bought mine at Sam's Club and got the the 3 year replacement warranty (I don't usually buy these, but in this case, I'll take the chance).

I bought one recently for our Salesman in Romania (He couldn't buy one in Europe). I'm sorry, but I don't "get" a $400 MP3/Video Media player.

I wanted the iPhone but no AT&T service in this neck of the woods, so I just went with a nice phone from Verizon and the iPod Touch.

Protective case for it was purchased at Walmart, comes with a clear skin for the face...works well.

I did see a video on u tube testing it for durability, and like the iPhone it passed the keys, 4 ft drops to tile, carpet and concrete.

Here's a little typing trick:
If you need to type a peroid, comma, etc, touch the .?123 to get to the numbers/punctuation layout - but don't release your finger. Just slide it to the key you want. Then when you release your finger, the layout will return to the QWERTY keys.
Makes typing a lot faster.

Also, trust the pop-up word suggestions. If you mistype, don't hit the backspace key, just keep going and watch for the correct spelling in the pop-up.
Once you get the hang of it you can really type fast on the iPhone/Touch.

I watched some episodes of "Family Guy" on it today and I was impressed. The screen size and the sound quality were excellent. Yeah, $289 is some change, but I paid $250 for an iPod mini a few years ago and it did about a fraction of what this can do.

My biggest fear with either device is that eventually the screen will get scratched/worn and screw up the functionality of the device. Anyone have any feedback as far as that goes?

I tend to be pretty skeptical of plastic electronic thingys in general, but both the iPhone and iPod touch look awfully neat when I see them.

I guess my biggest fear is spending nearly $500 (for either) and then having it turn into a paperweight within a year. What do you guys think of the long-term durability of the screen in particular?

I've got an ipod mini and a 40 gb that are paperweights now. Both failed and weren't the slight bit abused. Thats $650 to Apple. Why should I think this is going to be any better. Like I stated before, I got a Sam's Club warranty for $40 and 3 years that will directly replace it.

"Made in China" on every Apple box.

That's another reason why I don't own an iPod or an iPhone. There's nothing worse than great design ruined by terrible execution and construction. And I don't trust Chinese crap at all for quality.

I like the iTouch, but I don't like how they only go to 16GB for that price. I got the 80GB classic for my wife and has more than enough storage for all our music and videos for our son, its more family friendly I think. I still use my Sansa MP3 player for music, sounds just as good if not better and very durable - its been through the washing machine and still works.

Dropped my iPhone twice in a 24 hour period, at airport and threw backpack over shoulder, phone slipped from my hand, went over my shoulder and landed glass side down flat on the concrete sidewalk, no damage.

Later out at a restaurant, went to put phone in shirt pocket, problem was the shirt had no pocket, iPhone slid down my chest, launched off my leg, bounced off the table leg and landed on the floor, again face down. No damage.

Vaja. Several different options/styles for the Touch. Not especially cheap, but beautifully made and built to last.

the forums there have all sorts of info on how to jail break it, even 1.1.2 I did it within about an hour of having it outside the box. Lots more applications like mail and google maps. Good info at the forum.
