The girl that I mentioned above, Karen....

Towards the end of high school and the first year of college I chased her a little. I eventually gave up as I realized that I wasn't going to get anywhere. I completely and totally gave up on her...

One night, she tells me that her roommate (who was the sweetest, nicest girl you would ever meet) was being a b!tch (yeah right) and she couldn't take it anymore. She asks if she can crash in my room. I say sure. Now, having been rebuffed for two solid year, I knew that nothing was going to happen.

She shows up later that night with a six-pack of beer and a bottle of Boonze (her poison of choice). We watch a movie with my roommate and his girlfriend. When its time to go to bed, I offer her the bed and tell her I'll take the floor. I can't remember what she said, but I do know I never slept on the floor nor did I. She basically cuddles around my back and I fall asleep.

I'm woken up to her going to town on my junk. I didn't sleep with her (thankfully--I'd probably have had to deal with 9 months of false "I'm pregnant" stories), but pretty much did everything else. I fall back asleep. She was gone before I woke up in the morning.

Looking back, I don't think she could stand not being the center of my affections. I later learned that she had ruined a lot of potential relationships for me by telling the girl I did coke/I was abusive/I had a criminal record. No wonder I kept striking out the first two years of college!

Women who strip for a liv'n have a distorted sense fo reality - its a survival mechanism. The same can be said for hookers and call girls as well as some lawyers!

More and more, i just don't expect to deal with the "truth" when dealing with the female in our species.

Like Jack said in that movie when asked how he writes women so well, "First I take a man, then I remove reason and accountability"

Not just women, guys...I know a man in Portland, a Porsche nut, who fits that bill...why is it that so many liars are also arrogant? Any shrinks reading this thread?

I tried to understand the phenomenon a few years ago with no success. I also heard a really good show about it on NPR. And I learned that men who are pathological liars take on similar forms. The stories are just slightly different. Men, it seems, tend to lie about career success, wealth, advanced degrees and education, and (especially) military service - leaving out the victimization and abuse stories. Do you recall the story of Mark Hacking?

The couple's crisis started on July 16 when Lori Hacking called the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to inquire about financial aid for her husband, who had told her and everyone else that he would be going to medical school there.

The couple had been planning to move there a few days later. But the 27-year-old woman was told there was no record of him even applying to the medical school. It has since been learned that he had not even graduated from the University of Utah, contrary to what he had led everyone to believe.

The guy shot his wife a few days later. The story was all over the national news for a while.

Makes sense...the guy I have in mind lies in order to pump his ego...loves to be thought of as an "expert", and in many ways he is...his knowledge is vast...mostly gained from reading. But what he doesn't know? He makes up...

My brother in law is a pathological liar. He ****ed me over because i trusted him. He knows if he ever comes around me I'll knock his teeth down his ****ing throat! My wife feels the same way!

A lot of these people are True Sociopaths. One of the their distinguishing marks is that they are often very very charming, and believable in the sense that they probably believe the lies that they live. I made the mistake of getting involved with a woman like this recently, and although I tolerated her drama queen eruptions, lending my support whenever she needed it which was fairly often...She appealed to my trusting and supportive nature and I supposed I allowed this to happen, though I suspected things were off with her. I should have seen it coming and I will next time. Chalk it up as a learning experience.

Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. There have been some on Pelican, too. The usual thing, to claim having been something you're not. And it is realtively easy to check. But as soon as this is brought up, oh, well, you misunderstood. They "worked with", etc, the group. Never mind the fact that they described the operations they were on, tattoos, private part piercings, etc, etc, etc, blah, blah, blah.

I dated a smokin' hot little blonde who was a pathological liar once. It sucked- she was gorgeous, and everyone was telling me what a lucky sob I was, but the lying got old real fast. Never did figure out what her deal was- she had probably been getting away with murder since being a kid on account of being so cute. I used to have pictures of her naked, which I would gladly PM to anyone interested, but alas, I threw them out when I got married!

These kinds of people are all over the interent. My goodness go to any market related board or room many of them never made a bad trade in their life and live on those boards and in those rooms. Even when you post the "time and sales" data showing their story of riches could not be true they keep on posting away.

The internet can be a scary place with loads of those kinds of people who are emboldened by the anonymity
