"In other words, it's a huge **** sandwich, and we're all gonna have to take a bite."

About sums up my feelings towards all the candidates. Billary being the worst.

Original intent?

Steve, the dead white guys who set this whole deal up presumed that the best and brightest would come forward and serve, out of love for their country, rather than love of power. At the time, this was not as naive and crazy as it sounds today. The whole system is built on a premise that I don't think is valid, which is that outstanding individuals would be drawn to the government.

Keep in mind that the vast majority of people are pretty much morons, no test to vote.

I've voted Democrat since I was a little kid voting for Carter in my 2nd grade class (I know PPOT's thoughts on Carter, don't need to hear them again), but if by some great injustice she wins the nomination, I'll probably vote for McCain.

I remember someone from the 1980 election explaining it as, "your choices are peanuts, popcorn or some clown with big glasses" (Carter, Reagan or Anderson).

In class in 1976, I remember one of the kids came up with a political poem:

"My name is Jimmy Carter, I always tell the truth.

If I ever tell a lie, I grow another tooth."

I voted Huckabee in the primary. He won GA too. Not because he's an evangelical but because he supports the fairtax.

Tobra, by original intent I meant that the President was not to have as much power as he has now. Ever since Johnson, the Presidency and Executive Branch have grown in power, while Congress has shirked their responsibility to counteract him. Rather they have followed the party line and voted like lemmings according to the party leaders. The two parties have driven us to this point and I don't see a solution in the near future.

In this age of 24-hour news channels, blogs, organized political dig-up-dirt teams, etc, one would need to be a masochist to have their lives turned upside down in a run for POTUS. Sure, the founding fathers had some nasty newspapers, but nothing like the crap today that is nearly guaranteed to keep the "outstanding individuals" away.

Let's all just write in Cthulhu. Why should we bother settling for one of those "lesser evils"?
