Where Porsche parts made?

Ever wonder where Porsche have their parts made?
I know this is nothing new, 80% of everything in the world are
made in China and other developing countries, from G-star jeans to 996 headers.
I found this link for contacting the suppliers in many countries.
You can find many Porsche parts in it too.
Now, they didn't say you can go directly to China and order a sport muffler for your 996 or Boxster. May be you can try.

http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/Porsche.html

There are more than 10 pages, just for fun.

That would be Communist China, not just China. An interesting side note, when we lived in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during the Cold War, yes I'm an Air Force brat, I built a barn for our horses and had to go to town to buy some nails. I didn't even notice but my Dad almost blew a gasket when he saw they were made in Red China.

Just wondering. Did you ever find non-commie nails?

Do you follow the same principles as your father? If so, how do you manage not buying products made in (commie) China?

I'd like to reduce my use and consumption of Chinese-made products too, but as we speak, I'm looking at these words through a Chinese-made monitor and generated by a computer with many parts made in China. And then, there's the chair I'm sitting on as well as a few articles of clothing draped on my Chinese-made body.

Well you can buy your mufflers made by myself and M&K. Ben now has a line for 996/7. All made in the USA, even the T-bolt clamps we use.

Har Har!

The best way to remove oligarchy from China may be to speed them along the path to modernization.

It's been a central belief for a long time (that's measured in US time, not Chinese time) that free markets and freedom in general go hand in hand.

Besides, I bet the % of Porsche parts is only 70%...

2% Germany

Probably something like that.

FWIW I trust something "Made in Taiwan" about 100X more than something "Made in China" these days. Like you, I go out of my way to avoid stuff made there.

It's doubly depressing living in Long Beach - I can look outside my front door and literally see an endless stream of gigantic cargo ships bringing cheap, slave-labor-made crap from Asia into this country. They literally stretch from the Port of LA/Long Beach to Shanghai - far as the eye can see. This goes on each and every day, day and night, 24/7/365. They are processed as fast as possible and they return to get more junk - empty. Either that or they're full of U.S. dollars going back. Not sure. I only ever see "loaded" containers being taken off the ships though. The ones going back are empty.

Keep in mind that this is only ONE major port. Yes, it's a big one, but it's still only one. I wish every Wal-Mart shopping doofus out there could see this for themselves - maybe, just maybe it would change their perspective on our current manufacturing/trade problem.

As long as our government supports their "one world order" mentality and continues to reward our manufacturers for leaving the country while paying our workers less as the cost of living goes up there will be nothing short of a rush to Walmart.

Every sector of manufacturing is now directly or indirectly affected by Asia.
What are most 911/930 owners buying now, SSI or OBX? Hands down OBX. Quality is not such an issue with more and more folks as costs escalate for domestic products.

My wife was in the shipping industry before she got tired of it all and retired a few years ago. Then we had to kids. singapor is rank # 1. Hong Kong is rank # 2 then Long Beach and San predo combine is rank that 3rd largest in the world. And that not physical size.

The Chinese made products will get better in time. I hope. I was talking to my dad over the weekend about investing. The subject about china came and he read somewhere that some of the Asian companies are going to the Phillipines and Viet Nam to set up factories because the regulations are much more relax.

Well, you either believe in capitalism or ya don't...

We used to make nothing (worthwhile) in the US (not counting log cabins and some really rude furniture like benches). we sent raw products out to buy anything amnf'd. After a century or so we emerged as the manf. stronghold of the world. Not always in quality but we outproduced the Germans like crazy in WWII.

Now, people in other countries can manf. with really low wages. Add to that robotics (much more adv. in Japan) and the fact that no one else in the civilized world has to pay healthcare benefits directly, since their govts. take care of it, and you have a country that is just not very competitive at manf. overall.

So, do we restrain trade to "fix" the problem?? IF you say, yes, please go check your pro-capitalism postings on the OT forum first...

We still lead the world in really high value products and their design. I suspect that will fall too since we are not putting anything into the educational system (and it shows)...

Yeah, that was the exact story line of The Rising Sun. Great read by the way. Decent movie too. But the movie didn't emphasize the part about it really being an all out war.

...and what is the time for China to address the "freedom" part of your contention..so that there's a nice clench when "hand in hand"??,..."speed them along" how? I don't think it will be a pretty pic....but I do hope for the best..

My best,

I don't know what's going on in this thread really but most of my Porsche parts are from Germany or Austria.

Yes and please support Made in the USA if you can. Avoid all things chinese until they are as good as things made in the USA.

Wayne - I remember when people said that about the Japanese - you probably do too. I expect the same result, but a bigger economy this time.

Huh, I took a lot of heat here recently for suggesting that Korean tires were inappropriate on German cars. I don't dislike Koreans, but they have aggressive trade restrictions that we let go unnoticed. As consumers, we really have to just say no, because our govt' does not seem to give a damn. No to goods from countries with unfair trade restrictions, no to cheap goods, no to goods from countries who refuse to recognize intellectual property rights, and no to Walmart.

"our govt' does not seem to give a damn"

Not true at all - our govt. cares DEEPLY about you.

Just as long as you have a rich lobbyist.

Bush has done everything possible to help large US companies that export goods. Not that he has forgotten importers like the OIL companies.

Then, there's Congress...

shouldn't this thread be OT?
