Nice shots!

There's good money to be made at these a/x and DE events.

Around here it's $50-70 per CD.
Big money for photo quality prints.

Most of our track events have 100-120 drivers.
Sell 10-20 CD's per day.

Maybe I should do this when I retire from tile.

The kid's got talent, you're right to encourage him. Something as previously suggested to print/order photos on-site would probably be a sweet deal for him. For starters, really all he would need is a laptop, photo printer, and different sizes of paper. He could sell prints or electronic copies emailed to the drivers or burned to a CD. We have a $150 Canon photo printer that produces very nice pictures, and will go up to 8 1/2 x 11.

Jim,

I am getting back into shooting film big time (bought a medium format camera and a darkroom setup, going to do some old school B&W stuff)
Anyway the people over at photo.net have been immensely helpful, they have forms for digital, large format, medium format, sports photography, nature photography, etc., etc., etc. it is a great resource, you might have your son check it out.

Thanks for that website I'll pass it along to him. He is supposed to be working as an intern for a local pro photographer and I am hoping that will help him a lot as far as knowing the proper settings, right now he is shooting full auto. I am of no help to him, I am an old dog and having a hard time understanding the technical side of setting these cameras up.

Right now he is charging $10 for a CD with all the pics. He is in a learning curve and 1 out of 5 pictures come out really good for each car. Once he gets into a good groove he will raise the price. I still think he should sell CD's at the event then let procrastinators buy online.

This could be a really good gig for a 15-20 year old and beyond.

Maybe one day we can set this up, right now I think it would be better to just do CD's. Although now that I type this I am thinking prints are not a bad idea, people like to see it right now.

Thanks for the compliments, I will pass them on and more importantly the tips, those will be passed along too.

It wouldn't take much cash to set up, and would accomodate those who don't want to mess with getting prints off of a CD. With a digital camera, he could print out pictures almost instantly. Or sell both.

This is the best guy in our area - IMHO. Note his schedule - lots of weekends. It is a cool thing to start doing for a young guy though. What I find intriguing is that everyone you take pictures off is out having fund and excited about the pictures.

This is a good opportunity for your son to learn about web hosting. He should take some classes and then he'll be able to run the thing with little help.

*****, how could I miss Don's post? Here a snap of my car by gotbluemilk. The black tire mark is actually coming from my RH rear tire.

Couple things he can do
- pan with the car at a slow shutter speed to convey the speed.
- take photos from squatting, even laying down for a more dramatic angle
- find spots where the background is not distracting, no cone monkeys (being low helps)
- maximum (largest) aperture for shallowest depth of field and thus softer background
- polarizer will help cut windshield relections so can see the driver
- find the locations where cars get out of shape, raise wheels, lock tires, etc
