Are You Keeping Your Gas Tank Full?

When gasoline prices are rising, logically you should buy gas as often and as early as possible, because next week's price will be higher.

Are you doing that? Or are you putting off buying gasoline, to delay the pain at the pump?

Or, no change to habits?

No changes, I drive until about 1/4-1/8 tank and refill. I cannot wait for the day when I do not participate in gas threads anymore. Its coming soon.

I've been doing it, but with an uptick in gas theft in this area, I'm thinking it might make more sense to run empty or close to it (plus it's less weight that way, more efficient and better MPG).

Plus I'm hardly driving my cars at all (virtually all motorcycle now) so it'll just be longer that the gas is going to sit in the tank going bad.

Fortunately, I have an agency provided car so I rarely drive my personal cars anymore.

They are a huge Dodge Ram Quadcab 4x4 (12mpg-eek!) and the 911 (premium). I find I drive them less and less. I took the Ram out last weekend to the Colorado River, when I came home I put $20 in it so it would have some gas, but I'm not doing an $80-90 fill up for it to sit there.

Have you heard about the license plate theft thing? Steal a plate, put it on your car, fill up and drive off without paying. Less easy to do than in the old days. Most places make you pay first. But if they get your plate number how are you going to prove it WASN'T you that drove off? If you were a really smart thief, you'd only steal plates off similar cars as yours! DOH!

I can't fill up my tank. The pump stops on its own at $75. At that point, I just say, "Fuvk it!" and squeegee the windows...

My Harley has definately become my primary mode of transportation. I just wish I could tow a boat and carry construction material with it!

I'm getting to the point, very quickly, that I'm starting to condone the assasination of big oil CEO's and the bastages that have driven up oiul prices....

Surprised it hasn't been done already, really.

One of the local trucking companies around here had diesel stolen from about 15 of their trucks, one night last week. Fuel theft has become a major problem.

and a 3rd Porsche is going to do this how

i only keep my tank full in the winter if i don't think i will be driving for a few weeks.

otherwise whats the point? somewhere down the road i am going to have to fill the tank after a trip and the shock wont be so bad if i just keep doing the same thing as usual.

until the rest of the world cuts back on their gas use, the world market will set the price.

I always fill up the tank, it's not like I'm not going to use it.

I did put new tires on the bike since I plan on riding it to work more often.

I should go fill up the cars. The price dropped about $0.06/gallon this week.

What's gas going for in Tijuana anyway?

I'm seriously starting to wonder if it's not getting to the point of being worth driving down there, tanking up on "el cheapo" Mexican gas and then driving back across.

Hell, I'd even consider buying a big cheap van for $500, welding an extra giant tank into it and filling up a few small gas cans in the back if I could. Sounds nuts, but it might actually pay for itself in short order. . .

I'll ask my wife the price. She's in Ciudad Chihuahua this week.

I'd think the revenooers would not be happy if you did that. You'd be bypassing a lot of different taxes...

Drive across the boarder, fill up, come back. No problem. Drive tanker across boader,, might be a problem.

However, I keep thinking of this!

Oh and to save gas, there is a guy around here who drives one of these!

Hey, I've already had my vehicle fire. What are the odds of having another one go up on me?

J/K of course. Believe you me, I take the conditions of my fuel systems VERY seriously these days.
