Identify this arachnid.
I have taken on a new project, a Porsche 924 which has been siting for way to long - you could say it's my barn find, but maybe not so glamorous - I have joined your 924 club - check out what I found...
Never the less, yesterday I started the initial cleaning process of the car, and found a lot of crap (closest comparison would be half ready compost!) located behind the battery. In my typical dive in approach, I put on my gloves and started to pul out the stuff only to suddenly have what felt like a bee sting my arm - I jump turn my arm and find a ***** of a spider biting me ![]() I then spotted a smaller but just as ugly family member siting on one of the battery leads - my camera is not the best in the world, so the picture is not perfect - but can anyone identify this spider? Now remember I am located in Sweden, and the car lived in Denmark so we are talking northern European spider and therefore not a black widow thing (I hope)... ![]() ![]()

That's what shop vacs are for.
![]() Hope you're okay and it's nothing serious. The problem with spiders is even the less well-known ones can hurt like a motherf*cker and leave a mark for a while. I got bit right on the nose about a year ago by a still-unknown spider and it hurt/swelled/stayed with me for the better part of a month. I still can feel tissue damage if I feel in the right place. Spiders are nasty. Get it looked at.

That's a brown recluse. Pretty soon your vision is going to start getting that blurry.

Definitely not a black widow. We've got those around here I've seen plenty of 'em). Looks a little small for a recluse though.

Looks like a Spotted Ground Spider - common in Europe, difficulot to pick out in that pic though. Harmless but expect to itch a little bit.
Serves ya right - working on a 924, humpf! ![]()

Nope, not a brown recluse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brown_recluse_spider). this one has a big rear body and a small head with quite long legs. Remember we are talking Scandinavia here and as far as I know we do not have dangerous spiders here - but there is always a first!! Just never seen one like this before, and never been bitten by a spider, so thought it might be good to find out what type it was...
There is a very small red mark (size of a pin head) on my arm where it bit me, and it is slightly sensitive to the touch, but nothing really visible. And apart from that I feel fine. Actually the last time I got stung by a bee, it hurt for longer?!?

The ass end of your spider is too big to be a Brown Recluse - that doesn't get you off the hook. With the advent of trade from Asia and South America combined with genetic mutation, global warming and an Arab running for Pres of the US, poisonous spiders are becoming more common.
I will continue to research this out and get back to you when I have something substaintal or amusing.

Is this a good time to point out that I suffer rather badly with arachnophobia, so looking on Google etc to find this spider is making me feel very sick and itchy

I always take benadryl(diphenhydramine) when I get stung or bitten by something. Anti-histamine is your friend. Watch for infection(redness, drainage etc)
A Koch-Mason dressing is very effective on bites. Take a small cloth, wet with warm water, ring out most of the water, put dry towel over this, around the limb, cover with plastic wrap(like from the kitchen) Forces body heat to be retained, raises temp locally, and generally will promote healing and make the area a bit more inhospitable for bacteria likely to cause infection.

When did you get bit?
Are you starting to get red? Are you having problems breathing? Is your heart pounding and racing? If so, maybe your getting laid...

Is that what I've done wrong all these years?
All that money blown on clubs, movies, dinners, dancing. . . I could've just shoved some arachnids down my shorts.

Well, I have no idea what type of spider it was, but I have no signs of problems so will assume all is OK. It bit me on Tuesday, and now the mark is gone and I feel fine - so all is good
![]() Just a normal Scandinavian garden spider who got irritated about me invading her nice home - even if it was in the engine compartment of my new 924 ![]()

Much too large to be a Brown Recluse or Black Widow. The general rule is "the bigger they are, the more tame they are". Their large size is intimidating to their enemies and prey.
