Half-full/half-empty I guess.

If Obama picks Hillary as a veep, he's a COMPLETE idiot and has basically signed his own death warrant.

Not so much the party politician is he - but he does raise a good point, the two would cancel eachother out and provide an absolute fieldday for Team Mac.

Reads like he recognizes that most of the voters voted on emotion and depending on the camp would be violently agin the other. Pretty weak platform but in US politic any thing can and does happen.

Jimmy Carter - Why would anyone listen to him?!?
Because, in this case, he's right. Hillary will be a disaster for O if he takes her on as his Veep.

I agree. Jimmy's right on this one. I don't think he's saying both candidates are "lousy" at all. He's being truthful; those are the attributes perceived as negatives just like McCain's old age, temperment and ties to Bush's polices are on the other side.

So Hillary had 18 million vote for her, fine....that doesn't mean all 18M will vote for Obama if she's on the ticket. AND he may lose voters that might otherwise vote for him if she weren't on the ticket. She brings as many negatives as positives; probably more.

It hurt your fingers to type that didn't it?(Mr Carter is right though, ouch, my fingers)

I don't have any idea at all why anyone would listen to him. He is far worse as a former President than when he was in office, and that is saying something.

Carter can be honest to a fault.

This is a guy who thought having "lust in his heart" was cheating on his wife.

Such a Boy Scout.

He has spoken the truth, I'm sure he will be attacked on all sides for it.

Sure, Carter has lately become a very popular Whipping Boy. But frankly, that does not mean the majority of Americans, or the majority of people, think he's a laughing stock. The Shooting Gallery does of course. But not necessarily the majority. Former President Carter is actually a fairly respected public figure. Again.....outside the Shooting Gallery crowd.

And in this instance, I think he is dead right.

Yes, rampant inflation, job loss, and a Neville Chamberlin-like handle on foreign affairs bring respect.

The only reason he has any allies today is because he has joined in on the Bush-bashing bandwagon.

In practice, the man has no credibility on any topic.

He is right. Obama should not take Clinton onto the ticket. That would be bad, she'd do a Cheney on him, and Bill would be a wild card.

Carter is a good man, intelligent, and has worked hard for good causes. Wasn't a good President, but that hardly means he's a dummy.

I still think someone needs to answer Wayne's question - Why would anyone listen to Jimmy Carter?

My answer is that I'd listen to him just in case I was unsure of what to do. And then I'd do the exact opposite of what Carter said and sleep very well, knowing I had done absolutely the right thing.

To you. Not to everyone. That doesn't make them right nor you. It means you both have opinions.

I imagine George W. bush will issue opinios someday and some people will think he's right. Maybe he will be....if the subject is NASCAR!

Habitat is completely apolitical and is no reflection at all on Carter's piss poor judgment on everything having to do with world affairs.

It has been answered, numerous times. You just don't happen to agree.

Wayne knew the answer when he posed it. He was just rhetorically stating his lack of confidence in the man.

I think the answer is here.

I'd like it a lot better if Yimma put a framing gun to his temple & squeezed one off.

I know you would never let facts get in the way of your lib-bashing fun and I know I have said this here before but (yeah, I know I'm wasting time with this) inflation was the.....THE.....BIG.....economic problem during the Carter administration. He took office shortly after the formation of OPEC. The nominal price of a barrel of oil in 1973 (average) was $4.75. In 1979 it had risen to $25.10. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Sure, other aspects of his administration can also be called into question but if you remember the situation at that time (you'd have to be over forty, at least), it was damned-if-you-do, damned-if-you-don't.

Again, the world respects Jimmy Carter. But I guess that if you don't look too closely at the facts, he can be your current Whipping Boy.
