Who else makes homemade knock-offs?

The Power Gels, etc are way way too expensive. I have come up with a recipe that matches the contents and tastes pretty good as well.

Power Juice!

600 grams dextrose,
1 gram caffeine
1 gram sodium
1 gram potassium

3 cups dextrose ($5 for 5 lbs at a Brewing Supply shop)
1 cups lemonade mix (The dry stuff with regular sugar)
5 nodoz (200 mg caffine tablets)
1 tsp lite salt (50% potassium, 50% Sodium)
5 magnesium / calcium tablets (Help prevent cramps)
Water 12 oz (Water goes in first!!!)

Crush magnesium tablets, lite salt and nodoz in a mortar with a pestle
Put water in the blender
Add the dextrose and the lemonade mix
Add the powder of the tablets
Blend in blender
Fills 6 hammer gel bottles ~ 400 calories each

This is the equal of about 24 power gels!

I'm still playing with the ratio of dextrose to lemonade. This is todays mix. Tomorrow I may try only 1/2 cup lemonade for flavor and 3 1/2 dextrose.

What have you made?

James,

I buy the powder version of gatorade at the store, mix it at half strength and enjoy.

Good call on making the stuff you are making at home. Saves a lot of money and well worth looking into!

Someday when you're feeling devious, compare the nutrition label on a power bar and a bit o' honey candy bar...

Me too. I prefer the orange to the normal lemon-lime. I pack extra "shots" of it in small plastic bags for the long rides. Water is free, usually.

64 miles today, 95 F with Houston Humidity.
