Let's open a Firearms Store in DC

The ruling is in, but at the moment, no one can make use of it, unless you are a resident of another state and you move to DC with your firearms. There are no gun stores in DC.

SO, I smell a business opportunity! Who wants to get in on the first DC gun store?

Oh man, is this a minefield. The vast majority of DC residents are poor, too poor to even pay fed. income taxes. Sure, there are a lot of rich and middle class folks there too, but many of them are not DC residents. They usually try to keep their home state drivers licenses so they can still vote at home.

So, do you want to sell Lorcin and Raven Arms junk guns to the locals or try to make your money from FFL transfers on serious guns bought by non-DC residents? Do you want to pay unbelievable rent in the good neighborhoods or have affordable rent in the terrible neighborhoods, none of which you'll ever be legally allowed to carry in?

Ironically, DC has allowed plenty of residents to get FFL's and even business licenses to buy and sell guns. But they only did so because law enforcement, security and firearms training folks had no way to get guns as DC residents. I actually sold a 10/22 to a DC cop at a gun show in VA a few years ago.

Rest assured, DC will do whatever they can to make it as difficult as possible to buy guns legally there.

I bet there will be some new zoning restrictions coming. Armed or not, I wouldnt want to be in a gun store in DC.

Why on Earth would you buy a legal, registered gun, requiring a background check from a full-priced gun shop in DC, when you can buy them cash and carry on the street corner?

Silly boy. Gun laws only apply to law-abiding citizens. Criminals don't bother with them.

I still don't get why people outside of DC care. All of the letters in the paper today were from out of area people. Why do people outside of DC care? They even had a woman from pittsburgh holding up a sign in support of the decision. Why? I can't see myself being compelled to hold up a sign about anything...and I'm close by.

On another note, some guy was dissecting the intent of the second amendment based on its sentence structure and the rules of latin that "the Framers were well versed in..." I work with people all day long in the gov't that have more education (I suspect) than the agricultural Framers of the Constitution 200+ years ago. We debate the wording of the most meaningless memos. I find it hard to believe that the Constitution and Bill of Rights were given the constant word smithing and second guessing we give everything these days. I don't think people back then were that much more enlightened then we are now. I doubt they thought we'd be second guessing and interpreting their intent 200 years later. I'm going to have to be that much more careful with my work in case it lasts that long!

I'll tell you why I care. When a BS law is reversed it gives me some hope that this country can still be the land of the free. Hearing about any right being taken away, no matter who says it's a good idea, makes me question what will be taken away next.

Why do I care?

Because DC's gun ban is very similar to Chicago's, and Chicago politicians dominate my state legislature.

So far this year, the Chicago politicians have tried ban "assault weapons", ban all semi-automatic firearms, ban magazines larger than 10 rounds, ban detachable magazines, ban anything larger than .50 caliber, and ban gun stores within 10 miles of a school, hospital, retirement home, or park. They have called used obscure parliamentary procedures to keep these bills alive so that they can be called when enough pro-gunners are not present.

Now, rather than trying to further curtail my rights, they will be circling wagons to shore-up Chicago's blatantly unconstitutional gun ban.

I think MLK said it best in his letter from Birmingham Jail - "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

The righteous indignation of the left alone has made this verdict worth it's weight in gold.

Seeing a hyperventilating Emperor Daley whining about how having legal guns are going to cause more crime in a city rife with gun violence when they've already been illegal for ages was an absolute treat to witness.

That fellow is a tool.

Did you see where Daley said this was going to require a tax increase because of the need for more police? Yeah, I wonder why he didn't say there'd be a tax cut when the ban first went into effect, since it was going to be so effective in reducing crime. Just unreal.
