Which only goes to show that superficiality, egotism and plain unadulterated STUPIDITY knows no race nor heritage!

In the hispanic culture (of which I am a member) the collective "we" - well the most traditional types anyway, still use Jesus (pronounced "Heh-soos") and names like Angel and older traditional names that no one who is a native English speaker really knows how to pronounce like say, "Rogelio" (Roh-eel-yo).

I kinda see why they do this but the ones that make me cringe is when the parent speaks English with a heavy accent (no issue there, at least they DO speak English) and they name their kid Crystal () or Tiffany () and call out to them "Cree-estal" or "Teefeenee". Now that elicits

Dan, everyone likes the Hispanic tradition of using the name Jesus. It's so much more cool to call someone "Hey Zuess" than "Geezus". I'd much rather go by the Hispanic pronunciation.

Touching on Jeremy's post, what's with this new trend of giving first names that are usually surnames? I think CNN's weatherman's name is Reynolds Wolf. Shouldn't that be the other way around?

Yeah, had these people been Hispanic, this would have made more sense.

A kid I knew in High School was named Edward Ward. No lie. We presented him with the prestigious Edward E. Ward Award at graduation.
