Wow. Just plain "wow". I don't suppose it occurs to any of Coburn's detractors that a seat in the House or Senate was never intended to be a full time job, much less a career.
Clearly, one of the symptoms, and causes of big gubmint run amok is the mere fact that these yahoos feel their positions should provide full time employment, and an income and retirement plan comensurate with that. They should not provide either. These folks should be supported by their own means when back home when not actually in session, and should get no more than minimal stipend while in session. That would attract a whole different sort of character, or, more accurately, possibly some one with some character. And it would sure ensure they get their business done quickly and efficiently.

If it's on my own time, and no (real) conflict of interest, it's none of my boss' business.

So Jeff, are you going to lead the way for Senate salaries to go from $169,300 per year down to, say, $25,000 per year? I don't know about you, but I'd love to make $169,300 per year doing nothing the whole time. Hey, I'd like to make $20K per year, but that's a different story.

yes, Coburn is the one who got them pregnant. Knowing they can have a baby for free, these women get pregnant and start sucking off the system early and often. how can I increase my welfare check? Get pregnant, won't cost me a dime, and I'll get more money from the system. Thanks TOM!!!

I agree. They need to spend their time collecting bribes and funneling money through dubious channels to circumvent election finance laws.

For the record,, John Edwards got all those women pregnant...
I"m thinking the Dems would be ok if he was giving all those women free abortions

How is volunteer work equal to welfare? How in the world do you read anything I've ever written and come to the conclusion that I should be vehemently against Coburn doing volunteer work? Hell, I wouldn't even object to his getting paid for his work. Unlike most of the worthless pols in our gubmint, Coburn actually has a skill that needs to be kept honed for when he goes back to the private sector, instead of staying in Washington and becoming a pro influence peddler. I relish watching Coburn expose others for the fools they are, both in the Senate and here on PPOT.

Speaking of Edwards, the national enquirer (I know) said today that there is much more to the Edwards affair scandal. The editor said in an interview that Edwards lied during his speech and more will soon come out to embarrass him further and deeper.
Who'da thunk that this guy would lie to the public? He's never done that before and got caught, right? |

Why doesn't he just work at a not for profit facility?
Willie Brown was the attorney for several big players in waste management in Cali, pulling down big $ retainers, while he chaired the state senate commitee in charge of garbage. When someone tried to call him on it, he played his race card and came away smellin' like a rose. Tipped like shat too, refused to wait on $2500 dollar suit wearin', Testarossa drivin' ass the next time he came into lunch at the Firehouse(Old Sacramento restaurant) Quote:
If he wants to volunteer his services to a population that would otherwise be without his vitally needed care to stay current in his career, that he soon will be resuming, is wrong, what would right be? -----flash flashShaunflash -----flash those babies are getting born free of charge to the mother whether it is Dr Coburn catching them or not, simple as that. What he is doing is saving whatever federally funded medically indigent program(Medicaid, the county "free" clinics and hospitals around the country. I also bet it is sort of a PITA to reapply for staff priviledges if you have a period of not practicing for 8 years, or however long he has been serving. I happen to have been medical executive committees and surgical dept head committees at several different facilities and can tell you it would be far preferable to maintain your skills and not have to go through proctoring, or more likely a fellowship for a year to get back up to speed after that period of time. He is a Republican, so obviously he is a lying bag of shyte. At least he is not an attorney

I seriously doubt that poor women in Oklahoma, in their most intimate moments before procreation, ponder whether or not Tom Coburn will deliver their baby for free if they can't afford it. Puh-lease.
The idea that Coburn is "creating" a welfare state by delivering babies pro bono is like saying that food-line workers at the mission are creating the homeless problem.

If a woman is pregnant, she's gonna give birth. He didn't make her pregnant, he is just providing medical care to the mother and baby to make sure they are healthy. Maybe you would like it better if the baby dies? How about the mother, should she be killed off? Or maybe you'd prefer the baby has complications at birth and needs expensive medical care for the rest of it's life? |

I've seen some patently absurd arguments out of the lefties here but the ones on this thread are real winners.
"Hey, I'd like to make $20K per year, but that's a different story." Evidently Shawn doesn't realize McDonalds is hiring. "Coburn is a liar and a crook. If he is delivering the babies you know he is getting payment somewhere. Him getting elected just goes to show how stupid some of my fellow statesmen are." Let's just take the third sentence- as the first two are far too ridiculous to even comment on. Do you actually have fellow statesmen? Are they as statesmen-like and diplomatic as you are? "Same diff. Altruism aside, I know my boss wouldn't think much if I spent a good part of my time out 'volunteering' and not at my desk working." My God he works 24-7 and makes less than $20K per year! How stupid can one be? "Tom Coburn is simply a a gateway drug to getting into full-on Welfare State Addiction. Your hero is getting women hooked on gobbling up my tax $. I love how you've flip-flopped on this topic!" Note the raw intelligence and logic displayed in this one- helping someone in need is tantamount to hooking them on the welfare state and a lifetime of poverty. Does he realize flip flops aren't worn on the ears? "yes, Coburn is the one who got them pregnant. Knowing they can have a baby for free, these women get pregnant and start sucking off the system early and often. how can I increase my welfare check? Get pregnant, won't cost me a dime, and I'll get more money from the system." Personally, I think this one is number one. Tom Coburn is not only a senator and a doctor he's a virtual stallion- impregnating hundreds of women in his spare time- while hooking them on a life time of poverty. I bet John Edwards could learn a thing or two from 'ol Tom. I think it's pointless to argue with these morons. You can try and enlighten, presuade and teach people but you simply can't make cretins intelligent. Last edited by cairns; 08-13-2008 at 09:15 AM.. |
