Drilling in ANWR

McCain is against drilling in ANWR.

Paliln is for drilling in ANWR

Who will win that debate in 2009?

BTW, I am for drilling in ANWR. Alaska does nothing but soak up tax dollars for bridges to nowhere, so we should be getting all the oil and all the crabs we can out of the state in return.

Have you stopped doing the "leave Barak alone " bit yet? Edited - personal attack removed. -Z-man.

Obama hates white people, the Delaware Destroyer is white. Who wins that issue?

ANWR is about the size of the entire western lower 48. The areas that would be impacted by drilling would add up (including roads to drilling sites) to about the area of a small town. 99.9999% of the land would remain completely untouched if it was opened to drilling.

It's up to Congress. There will be no drilling in ANWAR anytime soon.

Jeff, basic assumption that McCain/Palin are in office (they will win) and that Palin wins the debate, the Admin will do what Clinton did in shutting down the government on Newt.

it will be a public rallying cry and enough centrist Democrats will vote for it.

that is my prediction.

What's up in the air is will Palin overrule McCain.

If McCain/Palin win, I think it will happen. With Palin having the first hand Alaska perspective, I think she has the ability to push it through.

I think the area they really want to drill in is about the size of LA X. Not the whole area.

What the dems in congress (liar pelosi for one) won't admit is that the Alaskan oil reserves that are currently being tapped are dying off.
IIRC they are pumping about 65% of the volume they were getting at the peak. Something will have to replace that oil, we can drill more wells or we can buy it from Venezuela, Iraq, Iran, saudi etc.

On NPR yesterday T Bone Pickens said the pipeline can only deliver 2% (max) of our needs no matter how much we drill there.

So build a second pipline.

What gets me is that so many look at this as static technology..

Three Mile Island was built in the 60s and most likely designed in the 50s.

The Alaska pipeline was built in the 70s.

Have there been no advances in drilling technology? In exploration technology?

Can't we build these things? Recover these resources? Ship this stuff?

I think they boomers are worried any long term investments are going to cut into their monthly social security checks.. And Obama cant find another penny that has not already been promised to the teachers union or some such..

I bet it would cost a lot.

How many wind-generators and solar panels would that buy?

Also keep in mind that much of the Alaskan oil is more expensive to process, it's not all light sweet crude.

Fixed that for you. If you're thinking alternative sources, lets at least focus on the cost-effective ones that have a chance of making a meaningful difference.

Does your dumb "Edited - language removed, Z-man" ass really think you can provide 2% of the nation's energy from windmills & solar panels for a similar amount? Do you really think that?

Additionally, Boone has an agenda.

Drilling in ANWR? More pipelines? I bet it would cost a lot too.

But we should do it... and I hope we do. The moose and the tundra flowers up there won't suffer enough to question doing it for another 3 seconds.

And I couldn't give a rat's azz for your overpriced wind generators and solar panels because I can't crank up my '93 Chebbie if it doesn't have gas in it.

Gas I can afford.

Now maybe if you wanna buy me a Chevy Volt when it comes out (I sure won't be able to afford one), we can talk, kach22i.

But I bet you don't.

So you know where you can put your wind generators and solar panels.
