So my side hurts.

So I feel fine, but I have a stitch in my side, like when I breath, and I'm coughing up little amounts of blood. Not alot, just every now and then.

I think its just my sinuses. My GF is freaking out. What do you guys think?

How screwed up am I?

Your sinuses are in your side? If I were coughing up blood I would be a bit freaked myself.

I would go to a doctor and get it checked out. Coughing up blood is usually a serious issue. The most common reason, though, is simply trauma to the airway from severe coughing or illness. If it were your sinuses, you might be spitting up blood, but not coughing it up per se.

The more worrisome things it could be would be pulmonary embolism, pneumonia or cancer. Unlikely, but possible.

I haven't been anywhere special. This started yesterday. Ive coughed maybe 6 times in the 2 days, all had red in them. I'm unemployed till Nov1, So I've not gone to the hospital.

It feels fine when I lay on my side.

is it just a dot or so? how much?

could be lung cancer, edema, embolism or worse

you might be in big trouble - also possible they cannot find a cause

find yourself a free medical clinic at the very least

What color is the blood?
Is it bright crimson or is it slightly blacker/browner?
Is it smooth in the phlegm or does it have some slight "structure" to it?
Can you taste it when you cough it up, or not?

I know the discussing the details of your spit isn't exactly what you want to do, but you started it

Sure!!

My asking was, the more brown/chunky the blood is, the further down the...system...it came from. If you have a cut in your esophagus and you're bringing up blood from that, it'll be bright crimson and very smooth, and nothing to worry about (unless you recently swallowed glass).

Brown is not so good. Brown blood is not fresh, which means you have an open wound somewhere inside. Maybe an ulcer?

Black is BAD. Black blood means you're bringing it up from down deep, and it's accumulated and started to coagulate. Black blood is a sign of someone dying.

Yer good, that looks like clean blood from my very much non-medical opinion. You have an abrasion from some irritant, and so you're slightly bleeding fresh blood when you cough.

Now, the bigger issue is that you apparently use cardboard as a kleenex, which might be the reason you have abrasions in your neck

***I'm not a doctor, don't take my opinion as fact, but I do know a bit about such things.***

The darker splotches are small clots from that abrasion.

Edit: I gotta commend you, you coughed up blood on command, that's freaking impressive!
