As a Seattle area beer junkie myself, I prefer a local brew you can only find on tap. Mack 'n' Jack's African Amber. I don't drink it exclusively, but if I see it on tap 9 times of ten I will choose that one. In a bottle I like most of the beers from the Deschutes Brewery, particularly their Black Butte Porter. Beer should taste like beer, coffee like coffee, and water like water. Add a little scotch to your life for fun, and that's all a man needs in my opinion.

Guiness. As my sons call it Geee Nee Gus.

But I do try to drink the local brew if available. M&J is on my bike route to the office

Swan - made in Perth Au, very good if you can find it
there are several micro breweries in the area that have excellent products depending on your personal likes and dislikes. Custom Brewcrafters is my favorite.
Labatts is my everyday swig

Current faves:
Red Seal Ale
Shipyard special brew IPA
Brooklyn Pennant Race Ale
Miller lite for mowing the lawn or house related projects, now that summer is over and Brooklyn Summer isn't available.

And shockingly...that new Budweiser American Ale is pretty damn good! I'm shocked. The local liquor store has it for $5.99. It is very similar to Bass with a slightly cleaner (read: more watery) finish...Overall a solid value. Who knew? I'm sure it will fail though. Ale drinkers don't drink bud and macro brew lager drinkers tend not to be adventurous.

Try the other Unibroue beers too! Very good quality. Terrible, Trois Pistols, The Damned, all very nice. I visited the brewery in the summer of '99, they served Blueberry venison sausage with their Iced Cherry beer, Quelque Chose on Lake Champlain.

I heard that Chimay's brewer was making the beer there now. (?)

Theres some great small brewing companies and microbrews here in Missouri (along with more wineries than one can imagine- not my bag) and they crank out some great product.

I prefer Schlafly's brews to those of A.B. They are from here in St. Louis. They make a great Pale Ale..

Sam Adams Oktoberfest is a very nice beer.

Second on the Yuengling. Not perfect but not bad at all.

I homebrew, so I guess I can call myself a beer snob.

Like I said I prefer Yuengling for my everyday beer, but I do try plenty of microbrews here and there. I have two buds that refuse to drink any beer thats under $8 a bottle, and look down on anyone who drinks anything mass produced or domestic. Those are the guys I consider beer snobs!

something i find funny about beer snobs is some buy based on a pretty label and they rank beers according to how strong the hops are. god forbid beer has a nice balance! my personal opinion is that such beers are popular with beer snobs because they quanitify themselves (easy to rank beer according to hoppiness) easily (oh this is very hoppy; i must claim to like it and thereby impress all my pickup driving neanderthal friends!) and average joe types can't stand them. Hence the entire 'beer snob' culture is slave to a dumbed down flavor profile and cutesy advertising.

how's that for overthinking a subject!!!

many claim guiness is good beer too (blech!).

Hard to get in Canada and not cheap if you can find it. Fog and suds sells it for 6.99 a bottle

that stuff made me quit buying Anchor Steam, well almost

Like the Porter too.

There are a couple of microbrew places in Sacramento that are not bad. If you are ever in town, check out Rubicon. Used to be one called Hogshead Brewpub in Old Sacramento that I frequented when I worked down there. Had a few friends that worked over there, so we would go play pool and drink beer after closing, don't think that one is there anymore though

Actually, now that I think of it, there are a lot of microbrew places all up and down the west coast.

If you’re a “Sierra Nevada” fan, try out their celebration ale, bottled during the holidays

I tried Trois Pistoles tonight - it's very drinkable due to its balance of alcohol and dextrins. Reminds me of Pyraat - very smooth even though its 10% alcohol. However, it doesn't have as much flavor as La Fin. I'll try the other later this week.

Another for Sierra Nevada and Black Butte Porter. I also like St. Bernardus Abt 12 and Aventinus IceBock when I find it.
