You can find solid 'driver-quality' e30 M3's for $10K.

http://www.s14.net/forums/showthread.php?t=35215

There's something very liberating about owning 'driver-quality' performance cars. You can just hammer the ***** out of them, park them wherever you want, drive regardless of weather - it's great!!! Stone chips, dings, scratches? Who cares?

True dat.

Get yourself a used Hayabusa. If that doesn't sate your need for speed, you got problems......

I was going to say a Miata but I know that'll bring out a dozen or so ghey comments.

A turbo MR2 might be kinda' fun too.

I have a supercharged Miata. Came in at way under 10,000 , and I got a vacation in Florida when I checked it out. Second most fun car I have driven after a good 911. Chick magnet, built like a Swiss watch. Good used engines are less than a thousand dollars, but I will probably never need one. Tons of aftermarket support. Best turn in of any car I have driven, and really slick shifting.

I have driven stock Miatas, and for me boost is essential.

Third on the Miata comment. C4 Corvettes are in that range, too.

Neither are four seaters, but you can keep your Civic on the side.

I just drove in an early (1993-ish I think) Miata tonight actually. Fun car, didn't really get fun till around 5,000 RPM then it started to put you back in the seat a bit. Not as fun as my 924S though. Too soft and no torque.

Boost would be a must.

my younger brother just got a steal on an e46 cabrio, the power is amazing ,i love the e36 class but i would prefer the e30 for obvious reasons if they werent out of the stratosphere now, a good compromise would be an early 90s m5 rare cheap and balls to the wall

Also +1 on the SEC. You can get a very nice one for 10K.

I would think the civic could be some fun with a little bit of that 10k into changes. I think a Mitsubishi Evo would be a fun car. They due get pricey though since all of the kids want one.

The duct tape on the sunroof is a nice touch. I think the e30 M3 is great car but if the duct tape is any indication of how the car was cared for I think I would look else where. $7500 for the car plus another few +++ thousand to make it nice

well my friend looked at an 88 m3 that was slightly better for 12 grand it turned out he knew the guy who worked at the shop that was storing it and it had low compression and the car was rigged just for a quick sale, its too bad that people get into lemons like that but it happens

You can get a nice 928 S4 for 10,000.

There's nothing like some 5.0L 32v Porsche V-8 fun baby.

E30 M3 prices are going up, $10k will buy you a driver quality car if you're lucky. I'm also not sure if a 20 year old BMW meets his criteria for reliable.

Original post say's "not costly to own". E30 M3's can be expensive to maintain.
