Does anyone else think that maybe it's time for some of the retail outfits to close?

I mean, how many eletronic stores do we possibly need? or fast food joints? or dollar stores?

Interesting that they finally changed the web page. I looked yesterday and they were showing a 7 Reasons to Shop Circuit City. Sad, I guess. Best BUy ate their lunch and they went downhill from there. They have been closing the local one (and the Tweeters next door). I stopped in, no deals.

The electronic thing ads in the 80's scared me.

So I look on Youtube for an electronic thing ad and I found that another store was using the same thing. WTF? This wasn't the one I found scary when I was a kid...

Watch the WRIF video in related videos.(It's the one with the girl's mouth.) I think most of the DJ's, except that old Goat Arthur P. have moved on.

Do you know who the girl is?

She has a pretty famous brother.

They were in Chapter 11 last year, so there's no surprise here.

Another 11 to 7 is a local chain of clothiers called Mervyn's. Their C11 started in July/08. They had 149 stores here in CA.

Doesn't surprise me a bit. I've been in one of those stores a few times to check it out:
More expensive than best buy and waaaaay more expensive than Fry's for the exact same stuff.
Why would anyone want to pay more for the same crap at circuit city?
If they can't compete and sell the same items at comparable prices, they deserve to die on the vine. They needed to offer a different product line than everyone else or offer the same one as cheaply. They didn't do either.

And the reason for that, the consumer wants to pay less for products. If the consumer wanted to pay lots more money for the same crap, circuit city would still be profitable.

You are obviously one of those wal-mart haters. If you resent those stores so much, blame those who made them so popular; the consumer who votes with his money.
People make wal-mart successful and make circuit city go out of business.
If circuit city was smart enough to survive they could have competed with wal-mart.

Remember "wallyworld" as you like to call it started out as one store.

I think most people vote with their dollar for similar merchandise. CC used to have sales people and changed to the Best Buy model of stuff on the floor for easy pick up. I can't see being "sold" consumer electronics that I'm going to put in the family room. Most stuff these days is of "decent enough" quality that you really can't go wrong with any of it. I won't buy one of those $600 plasma TVs at WalMart, but I would buy a name brand one there. I can research it all to death online if I want. As I get older, I find that most regular stuff will meet my needs without a lot of salesmanship.

Best Buy is competing successfully with Wal-Mart, so it can be done.

I think Fry's is as well, though being private it doesn't disclose much info.

Circuit City made too many mistakes, I stopped shopping there years ago.

i agree with VA Steve. If I want/need an item I will do research first and then buy it. I really don't need a salesperson unless it's something I know nothing about.

I've found that the employees at RadioShack have been able to answer my questions. I never liked going into CC or Best Buy as I don't like to be pestered when I am shopping.

Circuit City's service, product line and prices sucked and for one I'm not disappointed to see them go on those grounds. Their management did a "Lucent" and got rid of the highly-experienced, knowledgeable people because they thought that a bevy of pimple-faced high school part-timers would be an adequate one-for-one substitute and they could therefore save a few pennies on payroll and benefits, since part-timers don't get them. Well, it blew up in their faces and for one, I'm glad.

The only downside to this story is that the fat cats who came up with this brilliant policy will most certainly give themselves cushy golden parachutes while the 30,000 part-timers (and the few remaining full-timers & line managers) get kicked out of work.

I shopped my TV to death and got the best price and best service at CC. This was within the year at a brand new store. No, I didn't like the noise or overall environment, but the TV's are off in a corner. The dude was so good that I wanted to give him a tip. I got everything I wanted and picked it up an hour later.

So you see, Jason Cullen can't be a bad guy.

Remember Ollie Fretter?

I like the ABC Warehouse commercials with Gordy, the founder. He's from the Saginaw area as I'm told.
