Just keep them inside California. We had enough problems after NOLA and Katrina.

I do think we're better armed now, through...

Learn to swim.

Things are going to get a lot worse with those people out on the streets and the state's propensity to blame the victim and disarm law-abiding citizens.

would be interesting to know why they are there.

Three strikes put a lot of people behind bars for much longer than their behaviour may have justified.

WTF? they get busted once, how many crimes did they do prior? they get busted twice, how many crimes did they do prior. NOW, if they where smart they'll move out of state prior to getting busted a third time! but no they commit a third crime that they get busted for.

We need this law to keep our streets safer.

That would actually be smart unless they're murderers. Illegals in state prison are turned over to ICE on release now, deport them and build that fking wall. Still think all we need to do is penalise employers, Todd?

If we can keep them out, it saves us a fortune and frees-up prison space that we desperately need in CA.+ makes prison safer for guards and non-violent inmates. Plus keeps them from breeding ass holes in the U.S.

Actually, i would state the opposite. 3 strikes has put them exactly where they belong.

3 felony convictions is not bad luck amigo. It's bad character.

The last one does not have to be a felony, amigo. That's the problem. Spending millions of dollars to house/feed/medical some fking shoplifter is just stupid.

I thought it was 3 felonies.

If the third strike can be a misdemeanor(which i did not think was the case), then yeah, i'd be opposed to that too. However, 2 felony convictions in and of them self should result in serious, serious jail time IMO.

I'm sure that we can save a few bucks...can he stay at your place?

I'm for chain gangs. we have illegal aliens picking our fruits and vegatables, somethings wrong with that.

We do not have enough forrest fire fightes, somethings wrong with that.

Think how clean our walls and streets would be if we un-ass the prison population to clean, garden, fight fires etc.

My son's elementry schools yard was only mowed once a month due to budget cuts. this is BS ! Convicts could mow on the weekends so that kids wouldn't have contact.

No. And you can't either.

I'm all for locking-up criminals and even making them work but giving some loser 25 years of free housing @ $100k a year in tax $$ is stupid if they are not dangerous. Most are just drug-addict thieves.

Is it busted three times, or three felony's? A person could be charged for one crime that involved three felonies and its three strikes, correct? Is it three charges, or three separate cases leading to conviction?

three separate felony convictions after the other.

1. did the crime, got busted, got convicted, did the time. got out of prison.

2. did the crime, got busted, convicted, did the time, got out of prison the second time.

3rd. yada, yada yada. life in prison.

I must disagree. Breaking into cars, breaking into houses, shoplifting and all the rest gnaw away at society and quality of life for the rest of us. We can afford to keep drug addicted thieves in prison and so we should.

Most junkies do more than $273 worth of damage to society every day. $100,000 a year is cheap.

IIRC, they can do one ACT and get 3 crimes put on them for that single thing.

I think the 3 felonies bit is in Oregon...

They can certainly fight fires (or clear brush so the fires are small and not dangerous). We have that in Oregon (including picking up trash along the hwy) - there are all sorts of things like that here, tho funding shortfalls have cut into the programs. The guy that answers the phone when you call the state for information is usually sitting in a prison somewhere in Oregon.

California is a coastal state. Just escort them over the border to the West and tell them they get shot if they try to come back. Get PETA to help. After all, "fish are people, too."

I had a plan for limited prison size and no one seems interested. You just design your prison system for a fixed size population and that is all that get to stay there. Offenses are added up on a point system with the violent crimes getting progressively more points. When the population needs to be decreased due to overcrowding you just axe the guys with the highest point offense totals. Most likely you'll end up killing the repeat murderers, rapists, etc.

Come to think of it my plan would totally fix California's overcrowding problem while decreasing the cost to the taxpayers. Anyone got Arnold's phone number?
