Don't mess with those dog collars, boys. I used to run a couple of dogs in field trials, and used the collar on one of the harder-headed ones for some training. That meathead wasn't even impressed with it when it was set on "11", by the way, so I quit using it.

So, one day my then 10 or 11 year old son, who was helping me with the training, asked what it felt like. So, we put it on "1" and I gave him a quick zap. He screamed like hell, fell down, and was flopping around like a fish on the living room floor. My concerned wife comes rushing down the hall, and there I stand, remote in hand, collar on the prostrate kid, with him crying like a little girl. "You sick bastard..." is pretty much all I remember after that.

Look at it this way...we document the contents of our homes in the event of a property crime so why wouldn't we do the same with our dogs? Makes sense to me. I have yellow lab, they're a dime-a-dozen these days, and a border collie that aren't necessarily rare but difficult to acquire. They're both altered and chipped. If anything in the hope they would be returned to me if ever that was the case. Think of them as family members and not possessions-that helps.

They are treated as family and spoiled rotten. They are our 'kids' so to speak.

Just wanted to make sure that if something were to happen that we wouldn't hear "yeah, nobody scans for those things anyway..."

If the general consensus is that they work as intended, then I am all for it.

The chips are actually required by law here in LA County.

That being said, I don't know anyone who's actually done it. Our dogs are due for shots next week and we'll probably go ahead and chip 'em then.

deanp, get your pet chipped!
Our 12 yr old dog got out and went missing for 5 days, the chip saved her and brought her back to us!

She is really a family member, at least to mine!

Her she is
