I may not have known what a "twist drill' referred to, but at least I know how to find my way to the drill bit aisle in the tool department. Sheesh, no need to be a dick to the guy.

You may be able to find the drill section, but I guess you're not too good at reading . I was in the drill department of my own navigation. Bottom line is, they had no regular HSS drill bits and that is why I could not find them on my own. What they had was every other kind of drill bit under the sun. The only one that they had in the size that i was after was a cobalt bit. When you work in a tool store,you would think that maybe you would know what a standard common drill bit is. Incompetence gets no pass from me, and I've never been given one either. Either shyt or get off the pot. If you can't do the job then find one that you are capable of.If this guy had been a kid, I would have been glad to show him what I was talking about. Since you weren't there to see the freaking attitude that he had, maybe you should reserve your judgement on the situation. I am a very easy going person, but I take no attitudes off of anybody. He clearly had no interest in helping me find the item.

! Either party, doesn't matter (just so this isn't a PARF post). Heck, I wouldn't have known what a "twist drill" bit was either. That's why I come here...I learn stuff, and once in a while, it's actually useful!

I think too many people pass at making constructive comments at the stores you shop. I wold think management would like to know there's either an idiot on staff or merely someone who needs more training.

My wife gets on my case when I flash my headlights (1-2 times max) at a vehicle that's obviously holding up traffic (symptom: 300 yards clear in front of him and 8 cars in back of me) - this in the no. 1 or 2 lanes of a freeway. She thinks I'm harassing the driver or being impatient. I'm doing neither, just alerting the guy he may not be fully aware of his rolling roadblock. I await judgment whether the driver is an idiot when they do one of two things following the signal, one of which is to prove they're an idiot in the first place.

I would really have been glad to help the guy out if there had been any indication of his willingness to learn something rather than cop an attitude. I'm always glad to learn something new and have always felt that people who think they know everything are in deep trouble. I do get irritated at people who can't think on their feet or hide behind the "it's not my job description" excuse. Maybe this is why a 35 year old male is working as a clerk in a hardware store though...

Here's my fuel to the fire

I (think) I remember from an engineering class that a drill "bit" is actually just a drill, and the device used to drive the drill (if electric) is called a drill "motor." That means your hand held Dewalt, or lathe, or milling machine, or drill press, whatever, are all technically drill motors.

Although, as a machinist and engineer, even I can't be that anal about terminology.

To the point: A person working in a hardware store should know what a twist drill is.
