This may sound like a chick thread, but ideas needed for a wedding shower for a buddy

OK, its ghey, but I need some ideas. Friend of mine is getting married and we, along with a few other couples, are hosting a wedding shower at our house. He's 49 and fiance' is 30, both have lived on their own for several years. First marriage for both. She's selling her house and moving into his. Since they are combining 2 households, they really need nothing in that area.

He has all the tools, guy things, so a tool shower is out. They both only drink domestic beers, but they have a sufficiently stocked bar, so a wine or liquor shower is out.

Despite the fact that she's the dtr of a wealthy family, for whatever reason they are paying for their own wedding, rehearsal dinner, etc. Likely because they are older and don't want the style of wedding bride's mother would wantt. They are getting married at the local yacht club with the reception there also. (Neither are church types).

First: Ideas on themes for the party? Something fun and casual.

Second: I know it sounds tacky, but more than a few friends feel like a gift of money towards the honeymoon would be more welcome than a bunch of useless kitchen gadgets or bric a brac. What do you think?

They actually have not planned a honeymoon, so I thought of even giving them a trip that their friends plan and pay for and keep it a suprise until their wedding day. IOW, tell them they are going on a suprise honeymoon but don't reveal it until the reception. Have them pack for the beach or a cruise or whatever, and send them off the day after the wedding. They are flexible enough for this sort of asdventure.

Wedding showers are for chicks. Bring your buddy to a bar (or out to the garage) while the ladies do their thing.

Agreed, boot. But this is more like a wedding announcement party.

I kinda like the sending off on a honeymoon thing.

But can you pool enough cash amongst all the guests to really do it 1st class?

Luaus are always cool, and it's easy to party in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. We used to have one every year with limbo contest, ugliest shirt contest, pig roast, etc. Also being 50th anniversary of statehood it's pretty timely.

I do to...when Bec and I got married, we were planning on flying out of Reagan National two days after the wedding for a fairly brief honeymoon.

A few of my friends got together an sprung for a night at a very nice hotel in DC the night before we left.

It was a great gesture and really appreciated

You guys are horribly insensitive.

First start off with strawberry-rimmed Mimosas for everyone, along with a selection of vegan hors d’oveurs. Retire to the living room for a rousing game of ‘Scattegories’, then finish the evening with a review of the fabric and colors of the wedding party.

Wow, as soon as I typed that, I threw up in my trash can.

LOL...the fact you COULD write that suggests there's a side of you you're not sharing

C'mon, guys...I probably shouldn't have used the word "shower." Its a friggin' party to wish them well. Folks want to give them something unique rather than all the useless crap you get with typical wedding gifts.

I like the luau idea. Atleast I can wear a gaudy shirt, shorts and drink beer during the gala.

Cigars and booze, maybe some BBQ on the patio. Let the ladies have their "shower".

This is not the Bachelor party. The hookers and blow come later.

If he has all the "tools" he needs, you need to have a gun party. Take everyone out to the range and let loose with a bunch of different firearms and ammo. At the end of the day, take him to your favorite bar and have a few drinks. Take up a collection for his 'firearm" fund. He's had a chance to shoot a bunch of different guns, he can make up his mind on which one to get.

Yes. Wedding showers are for chicks. But men who are wise in the ways of the world know that when alcohol flows and the chick to dude ratio is about 30 to 1, odds get very very good if you know what I mean.

Wedding showers are like 2AM beer goggles for chicks.
