More hideous thieves

I don't know when or where it happened, but I went to get my sawzall out of my truck box for a job and it has been stolen. They lock. So I must have left it unlocked. Probably while I was inside working.

Also an expensive Bosch roto/demo/hammer drill is also gone.

They left my grinder, nail gun, screw gun, levels, power cords, jigsaw, power under-cut saw, and some other things.

Oh, and I had about 50 new/good blades in the sawzall kit...

The really sad part is that the guy that stole it will probably only get about $25 at the pawn shop for it. Pawn shops are really at the center of this problem...most should be shut down and then there would not be an easy avenue for thieves to cash out their loot.
Sorry for your loss; I constantly worry about this in my work truck. I often have thousands of dollars worth of tools in there and I use most of them daily.

We leave the boxes on out truck unlocked at least 75% of the time. Not really any issues but around here you can leave the keys in something and chances are that it will still be there. Its still pretty nice here but I have a feeling we are going to get a sad "lesson" someday soon as the unemployment rises around us.

Bummer.

I got my truck's tool box used, with no keys, so it's never been locked. I've always thought "Out of site, out of mind" and not worried about it.

Maybe I'll quit storing diamonds in there.

Uhh ya maybe. You can buy new locks. Go to the brands website or some type of place that sells toolboxes( Not HD) and you can buy a new lock I bet.

The new trend around here is where a group of bad guys do a "home invasion" so-to-speak at a construction site. Four or more guys storm the site (typically new home or remodels...nothing big like a commercial property...yet). They brandish guns, round everyone up and clean out wallets & tools.

And everyone thinks I'm a nut-job for carrying a gun while on the jobsite.

Yeah, but new locks would cost more than I paid for the box! Besides, I don't really keep diamonds in there. Mostly a bunch of torn up boxes of nails and screws, and a bunch of half-used tubes of caulk. And I found an old Hayne's manual for 911s in there a while ago. If any bad guys opened my box, they'd be pretty disappointed, and walk away empty-handed, unless they have a use for dried up caulking guns.

Precisely why I quit buying from ebay...it's the world's largest fencing operation, with Craigs list in hot pursuit.

Must have been one of those evil Gruppe B dudes - sawzall ownership, and a demonstrated willingness to use it...

some guys came in and stole an expensive VD camera from our church. about 2 years later i guy bought it off ebay and just happened to do a SN search, we ended up getting it back, it still had a tape of the guys that stole it with it, busted!

the kids thses days have no reservations about "checking something out" to see if it is open or there is something they can steal. they are quite casual about it like it is owed to them. chances are they just walked buy and tried your Tbox and it was open and took what they coould carry. it comes down to the parents not teaching their kids this it wrong but encouraging them to get what they can for free and/or it is owed to them.
my wife worked at penny's, had regular shoplifters come in. one day she was checking this lady out, her kid reached up and grabbed some stuff, thinking she did not see him, and put it in his pocket. my wife told the lady he needed to put it back or pay for it, she, with a frustrated attitude towards my wife, told the kid to put it back but NEVER scolded him or told him it was wrong. she was probably mad he got caught and she haad not trained him well.

WELL...

Turns out it's good news/bad news.

Good news is I have a large steel jobsite strongbox. My tools were in there, so no loss.

Bad news is my memory is going. I cannot remember when I put those in there.
I told a contractor friend about this turn of events and he was happy to inform me that this was my first 'senior moment'.

April fool's on myself and I didn't even know it...

I think you now owe an apology to all the tool thieves of America.

You still might want to put a "Harbor Freight" decal on your tool box.

I'm still having a hard time pinpointing when I put the tools in that box
