For years Boxters were voted the most fun car. For years they also had the highest resale value of all cars.

Boy women are smart!

Now the Boxters seem to be out numbering SC's or 3.2's at the DE/TT's as an entry car. Now we have the Spec Boxter class and those cars sound sweet when entering the track in mass.

Still, I am a bit hung up on the girl's car thing but more importantly would have to really look into the reliability thing.

If set up right, they can look butch enough I guess. Not that I think of it, it dose not mater so much what other guys think, I bet women love to go for a ride with a guy in a Boxter.

All I seem to attract in my 3.2 Carrera is middle aged guys.

Not I am really confused. My 911 equals interest from middle aged guys. Boxter's equals interest from fun loving women...

As I recall, a Boxter in my class beat my time at my last TT.

I may have to reconcider this "Girl's Car" thing.

yep, they are a girlie car....that girlie in her boxster is going to whip your tired old ass in your tired old ass dragging 911.

I have owned a 2.5L Boxster and two '80s Carreras and now a '90 C2. all great cars in their own way..
by the way a stockish 2.5L Boxster can whip up on a 2.7L RS Carrera with no problem on the track....so the Girlie wins that match up....

you guys need to get over the girlie car thing....modern suspension and motor in the middle, it is no contest. Grow a pair, get the car you want and move on.

I put 305 miles on it and enjoyed every second. Of course, it is a totally different driving experience from an air-cooled 911. That does not make it bad... just different.

Well said Dan and I love 911st comment about the 911 attracts middle aged guys. You can not compare boxster to 911. Their driving characteristic is so different. I own 01 Boxster S and 81 930. I love both but there is no contest when come to the 930. My Boxster is my daily driver and it is my winter beater but when come to a long twisty drive, my 930 is my choice of weapon. Test drive the Boxster because they are a lot of fun. I personally think they are under power, even with the S model.

PS
More girls look at the Boxster and every boys, middle age men and old men look at the 930.

I thought the Boxster underpowered that is why I have a Ruf 3600S. Lots of fun and I usually have one of my daughters in the passenger seat.

No way that car is girlie. Its just as girlie as a 356. Less so than a 911 Cab of any year. At least in the Boxster you could say that was its only form. In a cab, you purposely bought the least sporty 911 in exchange for sun.

boxter

Boxsters are great winter rides. Bring on the salt and snow...who cares.
Throw them away at the end of the day.
And besides..they stack well......

Gonna be a whole new generation of Porsche lovers on the cheap as soon they hit about $5k range....and they will....soon!

Years ago my father was looking for a two-seat sports car. He originally looked at the MB and the BMW. I told him to get a Boxster. He ended up with a 1999 (I think) 2.5 litre (non-S). He has not done ANY major work to it, just routine maintenance. He did have the headlight issue and simply upgraded to the 996 optional light (which works great and lasts longer). Dad's retired now and has 130+k miles on it. It still handles GREAT and runs strong. He's starting to get the itch for something big and comfy (he just turned 63), so I may buy the Boxster. It would compliment my 1986 911 very well.

Great cars, IMHO.

Just looked back at our last TT results for the largest run group.

The fastest car was a 2.5 Boxter. The three fastest cars were Boxters. (No the drivers were not girls.)

To say a Boxster is a girlie car is flat out stupid and offensive. Full stop.

My son in law (Toyota Tech) just had a couple of Boxster S's come through for sale...2002 and a 2003. I took both of these out for runs (my first in these cars)...VERY different in feel, without question (compared to my '89),..tight but not the same........haul arse, but not the same.......didn't like the shifting at all, but I guess it's something you tune in to......quick car and handled quite well.....couldn't push it to the max, as it's NOT my car(s) but could tell she would bode well on the curves......(although I did push her a bit). Very "comfy car,..much less visceral,..lotsa' plastic......

As to "looks".....I just like my body style so much better. I must admit that the "Barbie shot"(RWebb's) looks better than me driving "it"....

Have at it....

I am not sure a red boxter is butch enough for Bondage Barbie.

I think it would at least have to be black, be lowered, have custom rims, and a loud sport muffler.

My Daily is a MK3 VW Golf VR6... In Australia that's a "girls" car. (It even has gold wheels)

Here the "boys" drive Holden (GM) HSVs or Ford Sedans with body kits and lots of B.S. To me they all look the same and it's like they're scared to step outside the norm and drive something different. The girls drive either micro 4x4s or small Korean made cars...

I've never wanted to follow the crowd with the cars I own.

The Boxter definitely has an image problem but it's much like the problem the 924 had years ago. Regrettably the Boxter like the 924 will slowly disappear as younger drivers buy them and then not properly maintain them.

My Porsche is a 1978 911 SC... Do you think I'm pining after a Boxter?

Not yet but when my girly VW dies I might pick up a Cayman as my daily hack if I can get over the fact that you can't get to the top of the engine...

Hmm, that sounds like the perfect justification for a lift. "honey, I can't buy you that cute little boxster unless we have a lift.. The lift will allow us to park three cars in our two car garage and allow my to store my precious 911 up out of the way as well as do maintenance on any car we own."
