The do benefit from being butch-ed up.

Looks like fun!

This reminds me of the old "a 914 is not a real Porsche" days.

The prototype is much more appealing to me than the actual production car. And the top MUST be down otherwise the lines are all scrawzed.

All jokes aside, I wanted one until I sat in one. I didn't fit very well.
it's a little tight in my 911 and the boxster felt even smaller.
That's when I gave up on the idea.

If I can get a job when I get out of school, I am hoping that I am no more than five years away from owning either a 987, 997, 993, or E46 M3. I will wait another year or two before really delving into that list.

The newer gen looks better. Never was a fan of the 996 headlights or front end.

I like a hard top on them to.

All it takes to man them up is the right rims and stance. A better tone from the exhaust helps to.

Ask Peter Egan - he has one, loves it, and isn't a member of the rainbow community AFAIK!

I have owned my 987 Boxster S for 3 months now, daily driving, and have enjoyed every minute. On a twisty country road it feels super planted and is very predictable, able to adjust line at will. Quite different to a 911, and I think preferable for daily driving. Keep in mind I own 3 911's and a 968CS. I guess as mine is running Bilstein HD's on Champion 19's I haven't had to deal with girls car thing much, and I always try and drive with an attractive blonde female passenger :-)

If I could only have one car and didn't have to drive every day I'd probably keep my 73 RS Replica in the garage, but I sure don't regret my Boxster purchase so far..

If you need a car with wind-up windows and no a/c to feel like you're a man, you've got issues.

The only way it's a 'chick car' is that chicks dig riding in it. I've had two, and to be honest, the look never appealed to me. But from a driving standpoint, it's very 'tossable' and the low moment of inertia makes it feel like it's on a center pivot in the twisties.

The thing that rarely gets mentioned is how big the damn things are. I had a hand-built 926 convertible and the Boxster was about the same size. It was the first of the new generation of "high cowl" Porsches and I always wanted it to be smaller. The build details always felt more "Lexus like" to me. Until I got it out canyon carving.

I had an 02 Boxster 2.7 and LOVED it.

I think boxsters are great cars. But the supposedly 'unservicable' engine sure puts a damper on resale value. Anything goes wrong out of warranty, and your looking at a cool $8k-$10k, and thats with sourcing a used motor. I actually got rid of my car before the warranty expired just for that reason.

The dealers have been allowed to work on Boxster & 996 engines for 5 or 6 years now. Originally, all problem engines were sent back to the factory for failure analysis. There are plenty of Boxsters running around with 130-160K miles on the original engine.

I'm trying to find the picture I took at the US introduction, they had a white Boxster for test drives and for giggles we parked my white 914 next to it for a comparison shot. My 914 looked so tiny next to it.

That is one hell of a great-looking Boxster! Like all Porsches, IMO, it's all in the execution and I'm really picky. has to be right colors/wheels/ride height/etc.,etc.,etc...

I think Boxsters are great cars but I've never fully got behind the looks/proportions. It's a car that definitely needs just the right colors and wheels, otherwise they look like they were made by the old AMC corporation to me. As for the chick-car thing, I could care less. I've owned an Alfa Spider, driven my Mom's new Beetle convertible around, etc... I could care less if someone thinks I'm a nancy-boy, in fact I've always loved being underestimated in that area.
