Just my .02 but I think Tabs hit the nail on the head with post #2 in this thread.

Things were slightly different from a medical perspective in 1918.
While we're all agog with the "Media Flu", what should we be paying attention to? |
my wife's mother reports that they have had about 50 cases in Conroe TX, I just mailed her some masks, as they are sold out locally.

I started thinking about recent events, and I can't help but wonder. Clinton meets with Mexican officials to talk about the drug cartel, ok. I put on my tin foil hat and says, well I wonder when this swine stuff started surfacing? Shortly thereafter, right? Let me see, Mexico announces there is a problem. US citizens start to panic, and it plays right into the hands of those who are running our country, whose goal might I add, is to provide national health care, or insurance, or some affordable package that you and I will pay for. Smells funny to me.

We survived the bird flu.......although it did influence the price of eggs! :)
Now the swine flu!......that wont be good for the price of bacon! I think i can live through this one also.......but when the beer flu strikes, i'm going down for the count. |

Until this gets more dangerous than driving my car, it's not an issue to me. |

Nope, neither is down much on this.

So
WTF can you actually do to prevent getting it? I wash my hands a lot and always before eating. I told my girlfriend to pick up some ibuprofen and tylenol on the way home. We actually have a box of 3m 8210s N95 masks we never used from when we renovated a rental property. Hand sanitizer? Mini 14 and ammo? I had influenza in january and for 2 days I was sicker than I'd ever been in my life. 103+ fever etc. I really, really don't want the gd swine flu. |

Local L.A. news suggests the swine flu started at a U.S.-owned pig farm in Mexico.
This report seems to collaborate with the local news. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090429.wflumexico29art2245/BNStory/International/home And supposedly this little fellow is patient #1: http://images.theglobeandmail.com/ar...uboy600big.jpg |
Just to keep things in perspective, over 36,000 people die every year in the US from symptoms related to the REGULAR flu.
Obviously we don't want to add to that number, but if the swine flu causes a few hundred deaths it will be tragic but only a drop in the bucket when compared to the typical flu strains. |
