So all this hoopla about bird flu the past years... only to get waxed by swine flu?
Anybody taking bets on this thing? |
If this gets away from them it will be BAD...The CDC has just been waiting for another epidemic similar to the 1918 outbreak of influenza where 60M people died. The world population has trebled since then so the numbers might very well be 180M people will subcumb.
Several years ago I bought a package of surgical masks and a bottle of waterless hand disfectant. Just as a precaution, just you wait if it hits there will be a run on the stuff. Modern Medicine is really powerless to stop this kind of thing, it is only our arrogance that makes us think we can. |
buy stock in batesville caskets ?
|
Why they are going to burn the bodies...buy stock in crematoriums...
|
No links? Is there some new threat?
Or are we just worrying about a random topic today? |
Nope they have bodies in Mexico City and some cases in NYC...with the mobility of people today this flu can circle the globe in days. This was not true in 1918 or in previous pandemics.

7 cases in California, in San Diego and Imperial counties (ie bordering Mexico). Perhaps this will be a primer to shut down the border.
No fatalities in the US cases. Evidently the ones in Mexico City killed young healthy adults. Evidently the strain causes the immune system to over react, so those who are healthy actually get much sicker as a result of antibody over production (though I'm not an MD, nor do I play one on tv). |
An epidemic that kills ~100 million people worldwide today would be an extremely minor blip on the (over) population boom going on right now. Would not make a dent. We need serious population control. Please do not take this to mean that I want some plague to happen, my point is that there would be no upside to it at all.

The likes they use now to dispose of infected lifestock when they have bird flu, bluetong infections in sheep, mad cows and stuff like that... |
CDC says it has all the makings of the next great pandemic.
|
Too many people.
Thin the herd. Don't fuch with Mother Nature. |
well, as usual my timing is impeccable!
Guess I'll cancel next week's trip to Cabo San Lucas / La Paz. My biggest fear is not being allowed back into my country, or quarantined upon my return. Plus, my mother is something of a hypochondriac, and would have a (legitimate) stroke if she knew I was heading down there right now. http://www.lardlad.com/images/homer/homer107.gif stupid swine flu max |
Hmm should I be worried about going to San anton in about a month?
|
I'm on a plane to ATL-FAY tomorrow. Super. Better than Mexico City though...
I remember flying to Tokyo in '03 during SARS. It was freaky... |
you just need to wear the right headgear Todd !

A little thinning of the herd might help the unemployment numbers.
