when mine expires, i will not renew either.
it's just not worth it. especially since pelican is so good, and there is NO value to the paid membership over there. Not to mention how bad it has become.

I left there about 3 years ago, and a bunch of people left in my wake.
The moderator (since spit canned i think?) is/was a total ass. It always boggled me that people paid for something on that site that one could get for free on a half dozen other sites. Bewildering. |

Rennlist is where people go when they get pissed at Pelicans. Then they come back.

I play, I pay. Most of the 928 people that I actually see at events are over there.

I pay, so far so good.
The Rennlist 993 page gets way more traffic than the 993 page here.

The Racing and DE section at Rennlist is great, the subscription only really gets you access to Off-Topic and classifieds

Many forums ask for donations to support the cost of the servers etc. Someone has to pay unless the owner wants to spend his money and receive nothing in return.
I'm sure that the Pelican forum is supported by the parts side of the business I administer a board for replica 550 Spyders ( www.spyderclub.com ) I ask for donation but don't require it. Most of our members have donated and don't mind the expense as they realized that it costs money to operate a forum.

Advertising amigo- advertising.
I've been running a large military site for years now, our board owner has never once asked for a dime from anyone. We don't have any sort of donate feature whatsoever. |

Exactly! Most big forums make tons of green(way more than the cost to run the forum) from advertising. Rennlist doesn't need donations to survive and it's a ****ty forum to boot.

The difference is that people voluntarily support Wayne's business here because regardless of the forums, Pelican is an intelligently-run business that excels at customer service and has (generally) good prices and policies. By contrast, that "other" site simply sucks up to a bunch of paying sponsors who might be legit or not, whose products might be good or not and whose owners might be scrupulous or not (believe me, I've run into both varieties over there - some paying sponsors are great, others are scam artists by another name). Rennlist doesn't care - they simply snap up the checks from the sponsors and then give them blanket immunity to peddle their stuff on their forum - caveat emptor implied but not even ever stated.
However, honest and objective assessment of these paying sponsors is absolutely VERBOTEN over there (I've been chastised for it in the past and I've seen other people outright banned for it) and to make it worse, "reviews" tend to turn into a circle jerk/ass-kissing festival most of the time where people are pretty close to brow-beaten into buying from these vendors by a bunch of brownnosers thinking they'll score points with the adminstration/moderators by plugging the paying sponsors. It's a total sham. And you have to pay for the privilege as well. It's analogous to having to pay for commercials on TV that are peddling (occasionally) junky products. That site is a train wreck. The level of maturity on the tech. forums (at least the 944 forum, with regularity) is maybe two or three grade levels above the juvenile, misspelling-laden, obscenity-filled, ADD content of your average Honda tuner forum. Is that worth paying for? Hardly.

Oh boy, don't get me started with this subject. I was good and paying until a Mod (RandyV) just started into me, so I bit back. Got banned permanently. There are clicks over there and if you don't play the game, you get slammed from every direction. It's not worth the fees. Pelican has been my source for info on my 928 for over a year now.

I didn't renew, but they do have the best 993 tech board around. It was good before Pelican even had a 993 board. I never bothered with any other forums there.
