I just had a frustrating encounter this morning. While lying in bed trying to wake up and enjoying the sounds of spring song birds I hear a few turkeys. I got up to search them out in my side yard in instead of finding the turkeys, I found an older woman letting her two dogs out on a long leash into my yard. One squats down to drop it's load. While she reaches down to pick it up, the second dog does the same.
I opened my window and asked that she please dot let her dogs poop in my yard. She either didn't hear me or ignored me so I repeated it again in the same quite manner in which she replied that she was picking it up. There are kids that play in my yard and I don't want dogs parked here. She again said she picks it up. I state the MA dog parking section that states a $50 fine. She says to call the cops. What a B! Good thing I woke in a good mood this morning otherwise those dogs and the woman would have bed a bit for the worse. Last week I watched this fat lazy (I know his house up the street) walk not only his dog on an extended leash but his fat arse right through the middle of a neighbors yard, letting the dog run and chase sticks over my neighbors new grass. This moron just came from the ball park why let his dog rip up someones grass. What is wrong with people (dog owners this time) respecting other peoples yards and property?

If she picked up the poop, what's the problem again? Are you really that sensitive that you don't even want a dog walking on your lawn?

David:
Worst thing is, this is getting worse. I regularly see people with dogs on extended leashes letting those dogs poop in other folks yards, and dogs running at large. And this is the nicer part of town! The other thing I see a lot of is someone's dog coming at you all barking with the hackles up, while its owner yells for it to come back, to no avail. Then all of a sudden, I hear "It's okay, he's just being friendly, he doesn't bite". Pisses me off. I stand between our 2.5 yr old Lab and the other dog and prevent the two from interacting, while the owner usually starts into "What's your problem. They just want to play". Then I tell them something to the effect of "All I know is that your dog does not listen to you. I do not want my dog interacting with a badly behaved dog". Either way, I'm the bad guy! How can people be so blatantly irresponsible? Paul.

David I have to agree, not only on the dog issue but on every issue. What is wrong with people, and this person is most likely a parent who is teaching their kids to behave in the same manner. I have a neighbour who believes his yard is natural. It is covered in weeds and raspberry bushes that grow out of his septic bed. When the kid wants to play he would bring him over to my lawn to keep him out of the weeds and poison ivy. To which I normally reply that I had just put down some chemical so he had better keep his son off. As to saying that she picked it up so whats the deal, if both dogs took a crap and she scraped it up would you like to sit on the lawn in that spot or have your kids play on the lawn in that spot.

Some reason you can't build a fence if you hate nature so much?
Squirrels and rabbits and birds poo on your lawn 24/7 you know. |

So if I read your post correctly, it is a $50 fine if you do pick up after your dog, which indicates to me that MA is truly more screwed up than CA, which is saying something.
What is the fine if you don't pick up after them? What about if somebody spits on your grass, what is the fine for that, or do you just yell at them?

Hey,,, It's a product of the times.... We're being told that we must share the wealth.
I guess your lawn was much nicer than that of the "B" lady and she felt that she was going to exercise that new notion by taking her rightful share of your lawn. Afterall, you worked hard to plant it, feed it, water it and now that it's beautiful and is used by your children, it's time to share it with your neighbors who don't have a lawn or who refuse to maintain their lawn. ![]() ![]()

As long as folks pick it up, I don't have a big problem with it. And frankly, folks in Seattle are pretty diligent about picking.
Perhaps the real problem is that you live in a MA with a bunch of ill tempered New Englanders? ![]() |

Yes there are inconsiderate dog owners, but I really don't understand the anger here. If you are so worried your child might sit where an animal/bird/insect once crapped, never let your child out of the house.... ever! |

I can see the OP's point if it's an urban setting and there are public parks and boulevards for people to walk their dogs on. Some people also feed their dogs *god knows what* and the animal's stools are not exactly dry. HTF does someone "pick-up" after that? (Disgusting, I know, but I see this all the time). I'd rather they use the public parkway or grass between the sidewalk and street.
I respect private property rights, period. The guy doesn't need to give anyone a reason why he doesn't want dogs on his property. I happen to like dogs, maybe he doesn't. I have friends who don't want dogs in their house, mine are on the couch. It's their property. If you want yours respected, you need to respect others'. That's how I always understood it, anyways.

I understand the OP's point, as well, but what is different today vs yesteryear? In the 70s, did dogs go for walks with duct tape over their asses?
Thing is the lady could have simply said, "OK," and have her dogs go elsewhere in the future. |
