Airline Mechanics - No habla Ingles

Friend sent me this - Texas TV station investigating airline maintenance shops that are hiring the lowest wage people they can find.

Fox & Friends had a former FAA inspector on this morning saying the same thing.

The public wants to fly for the same rate they paid 30 years ago. Flying has become rather unremarkable to the general public these days; it's like hopping on a bus, or a train. The unsophisticated public has no idea what it takes to get them in the air, and back down, safely. All they care about is cost. With rising aircraft, fuel, and parts costs, were does everyone think airlines save money?

yep, just do the math next time you're on a plan and it will astound you. I did it on the way back from AZ a couple weeks ago..Take your ticket price, divide by the number of legs and multiple the passenger count. I think my number came up to be about 6K for a leg from Phoenix to atlanta.

SO! YOUR JUST FIGURING THIS OUT????????????????? WTF? being in/on/around/dad a pilot/working for garrett on flightline here in phx and l.a., IF YOU ONLY KNEW what goes on in the industry.

we are fortunate(read that as BLESSED) to have a TOP KNOTCH NO BULL A&P mechanic who could really curl yer skin here. he works 6 months in alaska on floats and 6 months here in the dezert, working on planes owned by guys with WAYYYYYYYYYYYY MORE MONEY THAN BRAINS! and he can attest to the stupidity/moronic/dont give a damn attitudes amongst flight line mechanics and pilots!

this doesnt surprise me JUAN IOTA!

if its EXPERI-MENTAL i aint going.

if its a new FNG , i aint going.

if it aint BOEING i aint going!

if its a hanger queen , i aint going!

if ya dont have commercial/military rating.......................I AINT FREEKING GOING!

remember................its an aero-puerto and A-HOLES FLY THERE! and crash and die there also.

dont get me going on this stupid sheet.................my computer everyday rings with FAA/NTSB crap from my garrett amigo in berlin, germany werking for rolls royce/bmw. and NONE OF IT IS GOOD!

New passenger jet: $150M (give or take). Gives you about 30 years of useful life at maybe 3 hops a day is 32,850 revenue cycles. In order to JUST cover the airplane cost (no maintenance, fuel, crew, insurance or other expenses) that's $4,566.21 per revenue trip.

Flying is fun but it sure ain't cheap.

OH YEAH...........................I WERK AT A FREEKING AERO-PUERTO! like im here this very moment. the amount of MONEY vs amount of BRAINS equation.................

does not always compute! ie. POLAR OPPOSITES!

FNG local fire dept guys just came onto property to be given tour of hydrants. these little wet nosed, rookies havent a CLUE what happens when a fully loaded with fuel, turbo-prop/turbo-fan/cessna/experimental POS augers in. ask me how i know. makes a fully engulfed structure fire look like kindergarden!

dumb-ass doctors/dentists should by LAW, have to take twice as much multi-engine class and flight hours as everyone else! money dont solve half assed bargain mechanics screwups at 25000 feet! ask me how i know!!!!

and i dont give a damn if you think yer poo doesnt stink and you think you can walk on water.................at 25000 feet......................yer money and yer med school diploma aint worth SHEEET when things go wrong!

+1 to that!

I always made it a point to be very nice and polite to the mechanics in the hangar at the end of my daily runs. It's what those guys do that keeps us guys alive (or not).

this is why I trusted and respected our crew-chief...
he said it's fixed and got on-board with us..

this also one of the reason civilian Med-Helo's have such a bad record..
somebody fixed it, and they are not on-board...

AND THAT IS WHY WE LIKE YOU! hell i have a cum laude degree in biz mgmt and pyschology. the STOOOOO-PID SHHHHEEEEET i have SEEN and HEARD and EXPERIENCED is my "everyjuan has one book in them" BESTSELLER!

the pompous pilots are the ones you have to watch BIG TIME! for behind the scenes giggles. the fly by night wrenches undercutting others wages, with questionable certs, is also something to avoid, like yer funeral.

g-damn it, ya get what ya pay for in life. if ya can afford a freeking turbo-prop/fan/cessna/experi-mental, a freeking hanger or tie down, fuel costs..............

WHY IN FEEKING HELLS NAME DO YOU CHEAP OUT ON YOUR WRENCH and ANNUAL MAINTENANCE????????? why kill your family members, friends, others because yer a CHEAP ASS!

heres a classic pilots OBITUARY. here rests "joe i'm cool pilot" he died along with his friends and others on the ground because he was TOO FREEKING CHEAP and/or TOO LAZY to stay on TOP of scheduled maintenance!

One of the truly wonderful and efficient and sensible impacts of airline deregulation has been the non-union Airline Mechanic who makes $12.00 per hour with no benefits. They take great pride in their work and they're happy as clams. Same with baggage handlers, even though they don't make the big money like a Mechanic does.

30 years ago would be before deregulation. Tickets, unadjusted for inflation, are about 1/3rd today vs. then. The problem is much worse.

KICK THOSE TIRES AND LIGHT THOSE FIRES!

(2) COUNT'em certed A&P mechanics have been RUN OFF HERE(this aeropuerto) for shoddy 1/2 assed dangerous work!

thats like taking my poesidon scuba regulators in for required annual service down at 24 th st and van buren here at the az. state mental hospital and asking the RETARDS there to service it!

now................think about how FLIGHT SCHOOLS make a buck and where they scrimp on costs. HMMMMMMMMMMM??????????

makes ya want to run right on out to one of those BIG flight schools with the mega numbers of planes on the tarmac all painted purdy, and git yer license! YEEEE-HAWWWWW!

the absolute best pilots outside of the miltary/commercial, that i have seen and witnessed...............are the USFS air tanker and helo and spotter pilots during our forest fire season here. along with local crop dusters. talk about poetry in motion. i could sit all day long until dark watching them make their retardant runs. hate fires, but sure do enjoy watching those boys fly!

I always laugh when I hear these stories...all this panic, and exactly HOW many injuries and deaths have we had in the past 10 years due to mechanic error? Remember when Northwest fired all the union mechs and hired in "scabs"...exactly HOW many accidents have they had? And they fly DC9s made before Woodstock!

If Juan can do for $12/hr. what Bubba the union slacker used to do for $60/hr. then more power to him. Society benefits from lower ticket prices which allow us to spend money on other things or travel for business more often. Unions have killed any industry they infiltrate...this is historical fact.

Until planes start falling out of the sky, Juan is fine with me.

What modern union ever went broke or filed bankruptcy?

This has been done for years but possibly not in these numbers. For many years heavy checks have been done all around the world.

Some places are very good and some, well they cater to the bottom feeders...
