neighbors! what a PIA!

my neighbors on one side is very messy with their garbage. crap blows, and traps in my hedges. they never close up their cans. i swear 50% of my mechanic's nitrile gloves get used and tossed as garbage gloves. i pick up used q-tips sometimes. GAG! anyways, i had a "good neighbor" fence put in. i had the contractor slam it onto the ground so no crap can drift to my side. my neighbor loved the idea, but couldnt pay that much money. i searched high and low for a person that can build it for double the neighbor's budget. no go. i found a great contractor and split it 66/33. i eat the bigger cost. i found the contractor, i took time off of work to baby sit him. i fronted the money. it has been 10 days and my neighbor hasnt paid me yet!! he sent his kid over yesterday, i was stunned, and was running for the check. nope, the little punk was sent to ask for some of our chicken's eggs. LAME. the money isnt a big deal, but i am seething from the principle. i am gonna ring his doorbell tomorrow.
thanks for the vent.

Live in the country. Our neighbor keeps a really good fence to keep his cattle on his side. It has been established that if we catch the same cow on our place twice he is paid for.

Man, don't get me started. The god damn beverly hillbillys moved in across the street last year, replacing neighbors who we love (they moved to a better location in our neighborhood). The guy literally has an 'Ole Miss' sticker on the back of his SUV. He drives an early 90s Blazer.

Trash sits in the driveway, lawn never gets mowed. Ugh, sorry, but 'southern n' folksy' doesn't fly around her. I guess were snobs, but is it really to much to not leave a freaking bed frame sitting in your driveway for 3 weeks? I don't think so.

LOL.

Try living with two three year olds next door, screaming and banging things in the (concrete) back yard 11 hours a day. Would be great if I didn't work from home, or if the house wasn't laid out to put all the continuous-use areas adjacent to Toddler Town. I think there are 8 or 9 people in the house. They tore down a portion of the property line (slat wood) fence -- supposedly to build a tall block wall, but then never followed through with payment. Does a 60 X 8' block wall really cost $3,000? Seems it does in the OC.

Not to worry tech, those two three-year olds will eventually become two teenagers.

the neighbor's air conditioner vents directly onto my balcony. some new people moved in a few months ago. every night at 11, like clockwork, a cloud of sticky black pot smoke gets pumped into my place. not enough to get me high. just enough to make everything i own reek of weed.

We have hillbillies living across the street, but we can (and do) ignore them. Our neighbors next to us, on both side and behind us /9on the alley) are great and we couldn't ask for better neighbors. Our houses sit close to each other so a bad neighbor is worse than syphillis! Cliff, I feel for you!!

I guess I have it good. When I was building a fence I told my neighbor so he didn't let his dog out with the fence down. He asked what the run between our two yards cost, whipped out a check book and wrote me a check for half. He's since moved, but the new neighbor is just as good.

I HATE, I repeat HATE, my neighbor on one side. If he was on fire I wouldn't pi$$ on him to put him out. The guy is a POS of extraordinary magnitude. Hes a landscaper. Comes home EVERYDAY, puts on his leaf blower and blows his property clean. Blows it out in the street on either side so it ends up in front of everyone else's house. Never pick up the newspapers just kicks them out in the street to either side ohf his house. I pick them up and toss them on his lawn. Saturday or Sun mornings at 7:30 he cuts his lawn. Then proceeds to put on his leaf blower AGAIN, and blows his grass out in the street.
He is an obnoxious pot head, has no friends, cant keep a GF. Everytime I say some thing to him he just laughs it off. Its only a matter of time before I have a major confrontation with him.
On the other hand, my neighbors on the other side are the nicest people you can ask for. They are great.

I must be fortunate.

All my neighbor's are great on my street, mow their lawns, have beer stocked up in the garage fridge, and we all have a cook-out together once on a while.

One next to me is City cop-undercover and his wife is a CSI detective, plenty of protection since one is always home with the kids and they help out the other neighbors with target practice at the family farm.

My neighbors are pretty decent, except for one house diagonal from mine. The houses here are small, but she must have at least eight people living in hers, which for the most part isn't a big deal. The problem is "naked boy." Her son is about 4 and they do not keep a close eye on him. One day we found him in the middle of the street, completely naked. My wife took him back to his house, and the mother was less than appreciative. This weekend we found him in our front yard on both Saturday and Sunday, in his underwear. At this point I'm thinking a call to child services is in order.

We are lucky as we own 3 city lots and our house is right on the middle one.

The gal on the left is retired(at50YO) from Delphi and lives alone but watches out for our house. She also gives our dog treats and loves our kids.

The house on the right is owned by the neighbor kiddy-corner across the street who just moved his mother in as her health is failing. The folks across the street are both retired and have become adopted Grandparents to the kids.

We only have one other family the is kind of annoying and that is really only when they have parties that get a bit too loud. I have never had any issues with anyone about the parties, however.

The couple that we bought our house from apparently used to fight constantly and didn't keep the house up like we do so when we moved in, the neighbors were very happy, so I hear.

My lawn is always neat and I don't let the kid's toys stay outside overnight, even in the backyard.

And yes, as the joke around the 'hood goes, my cars never get dirty.

my wife (the ambassador) is going to knock on their door this morning. she figures anything out of her mouth will be leaps and bounds better than my version. the same guy, borrowed a tool from me, and i had to go and ask for it back.

oh, they do have young kids. loud kids. i cannot believe the parents sent the little bastard over to get FREE EGGS! i was going to send a bill for the hundreds he owes me, but my wife wouldnt let me..

the rest of my neighbors rock! the religious zealot across the street even leaves me alone. my camo clothing and bow and arrow stuff scares her.

my goal in life is to live somewhere, where i dont have to see my neighbors.

Cliff, I'm so sorry. You are NEVER going to get that money. Just enjoy the fence. Heck, who knows! Maybe they'll spray paint the other side of it for you.

I had some problems a couple of years ago. Seems like digging up a little info and a couple calls to the police and code enforcement goes a long way.

Interesting. I just checked, and my neighbors are violating at least four -- and possibly six -- code provisions.

Have to ponder the implications of starting a "war."

Sorry, vash. Ask for the money but don't count on it. The fence was still a good idea. Maybe plant some trees to increase the barrier.

I'm lucky, my neighbors are great. We have keys for each others' houses, have each other over for dinner, water each others' plants during holidays, when one had an angiogram last week my wife went with her, pretty ideal relationship. I bought a lot of goodwill when we moved in, by spending $5K to have some big trees trimmed and dangerous branches removed. I recently went next door and cleaned/stripped the neighbors' side of my fence, will be going back to stain/seal it, going to keep it looking nice for both of us.

Once, back in Berkeley, we had the neighbor from hell. She was borderline deranged, screamed at all the neighbors, called the police on everyone for things like a noisy washer/dryer or your cat in her yard, then she started coming onto our property to actually kick the house. She also started calling the building inspectors, reporting all sorts of imaginary code violations. The crazy woman was scared of me, as I'd chased her off the property a couple time. But the couple who owned the house and lived downstairs (we were renting the upstairs, this was during grad school) bore the brunt of it. It was hard for the husband who was a shy mild guy. He fought her with technology (installed videocameras recording to the PC hard drive) but eventually learned to get aggressive and yell back. Finally the tide started to turn. The next time the police arrived, he showed them the time-stamped videotape showing crazy woman trespassing on our property - they went next door and had a long talk with her. The whole neighborhood went after crazy woman. The city attorney got involved. Eventually she got hit with some court orders (I don't know the details, we'd moved out by then) and last I heard she had quieted down a lot.
