Yeah, it was pretty stupid of them to build an air-cooled, rear-engined car with a swing-arm suspension. Who could be that stupid!

Only 10?

What a crappy list. What about nearly every GM car made in the late '70s through mid-'90s? Those were the unreliable, poorly made, vastly inferior products that convinced an entire generation that American cars were crap. What about the diesel GMs that made America hate diesels? The Cavalier? The Pontiac 6000 or Sunbird? THESE are the cars that should be on the list, and there should be way more than 10.

The problem was that they failed at properly copying a successful design.

Seriously, I'd take the Saabaru over any of these. Actually, the Saabaru isn't a bad car.

I don't agree with several choices on the list. The SSR is a cool truck and a halo vehicle (why does it pop up twice), the Escalade/Avalanches and the H3's sold like hotcakes.

The EV1 was a big time money looser (not meant as a business excercise but as a rolling test lab whilst trying to recoup some cost).

One of the things that killed GM were so many repetitive cars and the bad quality in the last 3 decades. Its hard to get rid of the bad reputation.

Now, is it me of Jalopnik sux?

Sold, as in past tense.

Those vehicles, and GM's insane reliance on them and crazy belief that the fad would last forever, were a huge part of bankrupting GM.

I really like mine but it was a failure because no one bought the Saab due to the huge mark up. In the end they had a list price of about $29,000 for the Aero but after mfg. rebates, employee pricing, discounts and all the other "deals" they went out closer to $20,000.

Here's a real challenge;

Pick the 10 cars that bankrupt Chrysler.

Just try limiting it to 10.

But they were losing money even when those were selling well. GM, like the housing bubble, had more than one cause.

What is pissing me off is that GM could be 6 months down the road from bankruptcy, without a pile of taxpayer money in the pot that we'll never get back. Nothing is different, execpt that this bankruptcy isn't solving the problem. GM is now destined to fail.

GM made a car called the Volare'. My brother had one, the jingle was something like Voolaaaarreeee' oooooh ooooooh oooooooh oooooooooooooh. It was a fitting jingle because it was similar to the sound one made while pushing it.
