Beer alcohol and calorie comparison

Putting aside taste let's look at some beers and their alcohol content and calories. I went to this website http://www.theraven.com/beer.html
and clicked on the table and pasted it into Excel and divided calories by alcohol content to arrive at calories/1%alcohol. I did a sort from lowest to highest and came out with the following. The first number is the %alcohol, the second is calories per 100 ml of beer and the third number is the calories per 1% of alcohol. So for example, the first one Utica Club Pilsener has 5.6 calories per 1% of alcohol content, and the last one, LA Anheuser Busch Premlum Pilsner Beer has over 11.3 calories per 1% of alcohol content. What's the purpose of this, so that you can choose a "Strong" beer, without the calories, taste no withstanding. Sorry, but I couldn't make it into more of a table.

This is more useful than the "what tire will fit?" chart.

I nominate you for immunity from Man Card revocation.

I understand, but it's a start. For example, I like Kirin beer from Japan. Pretty good alcohol content for the calories, ditto for the next one down, St. Pauli Girl.

If your trying to loose weight or maintain a low Body Fat % there is no room for Beer / alcohol, period.

As soon as I started to drink again I gained back 4 pounds of the 25 I lost in 3 weeks.

There are just too many empty calories in booze for it to be worth it.

4 lbs in 3 weeks is 1.333 lbs/week

Thats 4667 calories per week.

If you are drinking Coors light at 102 calories per can, thats almost 46 beers per week, or 6.5 beers per day.

How about food?

I eat approx 1950 calories a day in order to maintain my weight.

Anything over and I will gain.

Plus I do not drink Coor light I drink heavy dark beers like Porters and Stouts.

My uncle decided this would be a good idea this past December. His doctor was on his case about his weight, being he is an alcoholic and all and had a huge gut. So he decided to stop eating food and get rid of those empty calories and only drink his Vodka.

It took him about 3 weeks to land himself in the hospital. I forget the mane of the disease he had but he basically gave himself brain damage, he had to learn how to walk, eat, go to the bathroom... pretty much everything all over again. 6 months later he is still not 100%.

I know you were only joking but to be honest, it was no coincidence that I stopped drinking when this was going on.

I drink here and there now, but for the most part I try to stay away from it it is reserved for the weekend only and in extreme moderation. It took a lot of work to get this 25 lbs off and I will be damned if I am going to gain it back.

Dude, it is a table listing beer and alcohol content. That seems more like a qualifier, rather than a disqualifier for the Club Card, though I am no Grand Poobah.

Hugh, I think you need to buy another old car or somthing, ya clearly have too much time on your hands.

If you are looking to up the alcohol to calorie ratio, why not just have a pre-beer shot of tequila?

That's basically what I do whenever I'm at a restaurant. First drink is a double tequila on the rocks.

1 gram of alcohol contains 7 calories.

Plus your body can't readily burn alcohol for energy like it can animal protein or say, a strawberry.

Alcohol also impairs athletic ability for up to a few days after you ingest it, depending on the amount.

I like beer.
I don't drink beer because it impresses people (shallow, weak-minded posers).
I don't drink beer because of it's caloric content.

I drink the beer that I like and that I think tastes good.
If it makes me fat I'll do a few more rounds in the boxing ring tomorrow to work it off.

Life is too short to worry about crap.
Wow, that was deep and I'm only on my 4th Coors light

When I was in college and graduate school, I drank more thick beer than at any other time in my life. Had about a 5% body fat during that time, due to a lot of cycling. You can drink all the beer you want, you just have to burn a lot of calories if you do, or you get fat. You used to get a discount on keg beer at the Anchor Steam brewery.

MY office is exactly 2 miles from my house. Every afternoon I run home (by foot) then ride my bike back and get my truck. I also lift weights 30 minutes a day.

I am genetically doomed to have a beer belly, look at my old man and my brothers, yet I am maintaining 9% body fat at 43 years old.

I got as low as 7% but that is hard to maintain at my age.

I too could eat and drink what I wanted in my early 20's and it never stuck.

All that said I had a couple of drafts and wings Friday evening because it was Friday and I wanted some.

LA = Low Alcohol. It is the "beer" that used to be marketed in the "3.2" states. I remember Oklahoma was a 3.2 state, where you could get 3.2% alcohol beer when you were 18-19 and the hard liquor after 21. It was pretty funny, because in those places, you hard to drink a serious amount of beer before you could get drunk, I mean like 2 six packs.

Beer has a lot complex carbohydrates in it. The more it has, the more complex the beer. 2 ways to "lighten" the body of beer is to use adjunts. Miller uses corn, A-B uses rice. These, when fermented, will form alcohol, but little body. If you go to the extreme, "light beer", an enzyme is added which breaks down ALL of the complex carbs to fermentable sugars. You end up with a higher alcohol, low body, beer, to which water is added to bring it back to the correct % alcohol. These beers have almost no body. The calories are almost all from alcohol.
