the moral of the lesson is 'have confidence' even when you don't, fake it........and don't try to be something you aren't......I make no secret of the fact that I'm a smartass and arrogant.

I think I could tell if something was a flirting insult if it were given in person.

I haven't had a girl insult me before so I guess that is both a good and a bad thing.

I will go with all the advice I have been given before- be yourself. I need a girl that I feel comfortable being myself with.

By fake it, in re confidence, I didn't mean be something you aren't.......I meant just be confident even if there is a little voice in the back of your head working against you......quickly, that voice will dissipate.

But yeah, be yourself. Don't act any different than you would around friends.....I got a lot of crap from one girl I dated briefly because I do things like open doors, etc...........but I do that for everyone.........despite the arrogant smartass part, I bend over backwards to help others and have manners......just who I am and I don't ramp that up or down to accomodate a female interest.

Um, to a point. You really are not going to make a good first impression with one finger up your nose and the other hand scratching your ass while farting.

Yeah, the confidence is the key. I have to get rid of the fear of failure and realize it does not mean the problem is with me if she doesn't like me. So I should therefore just go for it.
