It's odd! The guy the owns a condo here is a friend of a friend of a friend of my parents. The owner calls in, gives the name of the guests and then the office sets it up with you.

It literally costs $150 a night for the local Holiday Inn up here. Nice rooms, but that's it.

I put up a 5 minute vid on FB of pretty much 2/3rds of the place.

You want to watch a DVD... There's a list in the place, find what you want and call the front desk. They'll bring it up!

So a sneaker net version of Apple TV or Netflix.

There's a movie theater that you can reserve! Arcade for the kiddies too!

One complaint. Not a fan of the shower in my master bath. It's got this huge showerhead coming out the ceiling. It's a full on rain storm! I'm not washing my hair tonight and it is impossible to keep it dry. The nozzles coming out of the wall sprayed too high. Good thing there are 3 other bathrooms with normal showers.

Hawaii is a great place to visit but I would not want to live there unless I had a very large income stream. Anyplace decent is stupid crazy expensive. The locals hate the haoles. If you go to the beach and put your stuff down and go swimming expect your stuff to be gone when you get out of the water.

The money would be quite good and I could use base facilities to save on groceries, etc...as I am a military retiree. They would not pay to move our stuff though...and we have a lot. I guess I would get rid of what I could bear to part with and put the 911s and the rest of our furniture in my house in Vegas until we came back to retire. Then I could just get a small one bedroom in Hawaii.

I have been to Oahu and Maui several times for R&R after deployment, vacation and a couple of conferences. I spent a month working at Hickam in 2007 that I really enjoyed...especially since my employer paid me a pretty darned good per diem rate when I was there. I don't know if I would want to stay long term, but a couple of years would be grand.

We lived in NM for about 12 years and eat homemade Mexican or New Mexican dishes three or four times a week. We make a cream of green chili chicken soup that is really good...and is quick and simple. Just had some last weekend.

My daughter pretty much grew up there... high school, college (cheerleader at UNM for 4 yrs) and has some even better, authentic recipes that friends taught her that are amazing! Went to her house at Thanksgiving and ate her turkey when I wanted her enchiladas. She did make some pretty good breakfast burritos though.

I had a 2 week stay in Hawai'i in '10. Absolutely loved it. Honolulu is a sh#thole like any tourist theme park is. I have never seen so many homeless people in my life. In my city there's so few homeless vagrants that we all know him by name. Honolulu/waikiki there were homeless in South Park proportions.

Once we were off to the other islands though it was a lot better. Better class of co-tourists, far fewer mooching homeless and the locals were a lot more tolerant of ignorant visitors.

Everything is really cheap there (compared to home) and we had a fantastic time. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I spent a month in Townsville, Queensland AUS one winter and enjoyed it there. Tropical weather is nice regardless of what else is around. The beaches were empty and beautifully kept. Food was good. People were really nice.

Evening all. Its been a day. I am so close to resigning as CAD manager just so the prick can yell at someone else for a change. I'm really tired of the hostile work environment. 10 straight hours no breaks cause he screwed up a dead line. I get home 20 minutes later he calls me back in to fix something that could wait till the morning. Then asks me if a coworker plotted some drawing and got all pissy when I said I didn't know. I asked him how I was supposed to know what he talked to the guy on the phone about.

Never quit a job until you have another lined up. Tomorrow will be better.

Icemaster 01-29-2013 07:20 PM

Very true. But right now there are no jobs to be had doing what I do.

pete3799 01-29-2013 07:30 PM

She was here this morning Pete.
Hopefully she hasn't been scared off by the idiots in the other thread.

Hang in there. Just remember...if your boss is a prick...his life is probably worse than he is making your life. Probably has to wear a french maid outfit at home and paint his fat wife's toenails.

Porsche-poor 01-29-2013 07:51 PM

He is divorced. So he doesn't care if you have a life.

Good to hear. She sounded like Stijn material.

How's things been around the water cooler?

Porsche-poor 01-29-2013 09:14 PM
