Reading this thread is going to make me fat. ;) all this BBQ talk is making me hungry! Ahhhhh... Long weekend. Have a little work to do over it but still nice to get some relaxation in. I have had the boys for two weeks straight. Going to be hard to be away from them these couple of days. They always look forward to the 4th with their Dad though. :)

My little Peanut has recently become obsessed with money. Finding it... Not working for it. I keep trying to explain to him that he will earn money much faster if he would help mommy like pick up his clothes, get ready for school without asking, etc. but the little booger isn't grasping it. I think he likes hunting for loose change everywhere we go. At least he says he is saving his money to buy his brother a Lego set for his birthday. I bought him this stuffed animal dog piggy bank that barks when you put change in it. The kid even sleeps with it at night. We are going to go open bank accounts for both of them next week. :)

Dog piggy bank? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/oink.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/oink.gifhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/oink.gif

Yes. Lol. He loves dogs so I for him it. It is really cute. Barks and pants when you put money in it. But it's soft. Looks just like a stuffed animal.

Opened a passbook savings account when I was 7. Got a $2 check for mowing the neighbors lawn. Tried to deposit it and the teller's made a big deal out of my endorsement of the check being Printed instead of written in cursive and even had me go talk to the president of the bank. i just assured them it was my signature, showed them the same signature on my library card, and told them I wouldn't learn to write cursive until the 3rd grade.

I suspect after you crank out one batch you will want an electric one.

We have a high quality electric version. It has the wooden ice bucket. If I run it to the point the ice cream gets so thick the motor locks up it makes great ice cream. I can't imagine the effort to do that with a hand crank.

I remember as a kid sitting on grandpa's hand crank ice cream maker. The effort to crank was huge.

GH85Carrera 07-04-2013 05:21 AM

That is enough to make a guy stand up and salute. ;)

RKDinOKC 07-04-2013 06:36 AM

Can't imagine why anyone would spend almost $300 for those White Mountain wooden hand OR electric ice cream freezers.

RKDinOKC 07-04-2013 06:47 AM

Be careful of the cheap ones with the wooden bucket. Got one as a gift, it was electric or crank, but only made ice cream once. The wooden slats were varnished and hence didn't soak up water and swell so leaked so badly it wouldn't freeze ice cream. Found it was from Walmart. Re-gifted it to the good will.

The freezer I picked up yesterday was at Bed Bath and Beyond. It is electric and the wooden bucket is plastic lined. Will have to see how it does.

From when I was a little kid until our styrofoam bucketed freezer broke a few years ago, we made ice cream every 4th. Well, I guess it's really frozen custard because our recipe uses eggs and you cook it to thicken before freezing.

Hello folks.

Man I got a lot of catching up to do.
