It's still traditional for the brides parents to foot the bill over here.

Don't know what the final bill was for my daughters wedding (doesn't matter really), although I do remember the bank account hemorrhaging for a while. Looking back, I think it was pretty modest for this day and age, 10-15k perhaps? She had it exactly how she wanted it, thus everyone's happy.

The venue hire turned out to be free as the National Park dropped their hire fee the month before the wedding, then she wanted me to drive her there in the '44, free again. The reception center lost the drinks tab, free bar. So it really just came down to the dress, the dinner, the trimmings (outlandishly expensive crap), DJ, and the honeymoon/wedding present.

I took Glens approach, whenever I was told something was needed the answer was always 'yes dear'.

BTW, it was all for my baby girl. 'No' was never an option. :)

It is astonishing what some brides want to have spent on their "special day." I guess it is drilled into most little girls that someday they get the big wedding. They watch other weddings and want it like that. Fortunately my wife never bought into all that. We had a simple and inexpensive wedding. We spent some money to go to the Bahamas on our honeymoon.

i think i got married for less than $1000. and my wife footed most of that bill, herself. and it was beautiful.

also, she likes me with cars and motorcycles. she was mad when i put my motorcycle up for sale, last spring. she's been on the thing exactly once....

OPF's (other people's functions) (wait, that don't jive) are boring. I always have the 'flu'.

HHI944 07-22-2013 06:56 PM

Got some quality time in with the float plane. It did great, take offs and landings on both grass and water. The damn motor pod is loose though. They didn't make the anchor points big enough to not sink into the wingside mount and loosen up. I'm gonna CA the pod in place and shim the mounting bolts with rubber washers

Maybe you have boring friends.

I have been to functions that I did not know anyone but the person that brought me. It is usually easy to have an enjoyable evening.

Do you by your glue by the gallon now? ;)

HHI944 07-22-2013 07:34 PM

Nah, 55 gallon drum!
actually, everything is pretty solid on the plane right now, I replaced most of the parts that were heavily glued together....the only thing being held together by glue now is the rudder hinge and that's done in a method that is quite commonly used as a preemptive repair and strengthening for foam electric flyers...

Foam RC - Saturn builds cars like that.

Weddings - Thought it was the bride's father foots the wedding ceremony and reception, the groom's father the rehearsal dinner and tux rental for groomsmen. That's why it's so easy to sneak away to elope.

My daughter's wedding was around $50K. I think there were about 125 guests.

I had a saturn when I was in HS.........I'd feel safer in an aircraft made entirely of foam......piloted by me.....

I managed to royally piss off a 6 foot gator as well.....he was going for the plane after I'd taxi'd it to the bank so I threw the little flag thingy from the golf hole at him and it stuck.....there's a gator swimming around with a golf flag in his back because of me......stupid farking reptile
